Hi All,

New to the iPhone, just received my 4S 32GB last week Thursday so still finding my feet so to speak.
Have a few apps loaded but nothing major, nothing that requires a constant connection or significant bandwidth.
Battery life seems to be an issue, a full charge will last me around 12 hours with moderate to heavy usage, but from a bit of googling it seems most 4S owners have these issues - with any luck they are resolved in 5.1.
I have seen a fair few battery applications on the app store, are these any good? do they prolong battery life at all or preserve the life of your battery?

If you have to pay then I'd say street clear until you have had the iphone for a while.

There are several tweaks you can do to make it use less battery. Google for them.

The ones I use are to have the screen slightly dimmer than max and to change the battery meter from %'s to just the battery graphic (psychological :) helper apparently ). There are others like toggling wifi on and off etc but I never bother with these.

I have the iP4 not iP4s but I think the above apply. What was your previous phone? Most iPhone users I know charge their phones every night.

The 4S has battery issues, we all waiting for Apple to patch it (hopefully in their 5.1 Update on route)..

As for the battery app's.. I say they are junk - rather Google on how to save battery, as per Waaib's post.

I get about 5 hours out of my 4S with 2 push email accounts, push notifications enabled, background latitude updating, near contant use for music and audiobooks. Even though I'm using it a lot it does not seem like the battery lasts longer on days that I don't use it so much. I believe the real culprit is the insistence on 3G. I've got terrible to zero cellphone reception and if it would at least be content with the closest tower things might go better.

(on wifi all day)

Previously i had a Bold 9000.

do we have any idea when the 5.1 patch will be released?

Switching to 3G is probably the most effective way to make your battery last longer, and this goes for all modern smart phones.

My Android phone lasted 1 day with 3G when I got it. I then switched to EDGE and undervolted the CPU, and now I get 4 days on a charge :)

I am sure with the imminent jailbreak it will be possible to switch 3G off ...
