Battery charging on a 6680

I had quite a few Nokia phones. And this is my second 6680. The first one was exchanged of a charging malfunction.

This one charges in very strange and unpredictable ways. Sometimes after hours of charging it doesn’t stop and when I unplug it from the charger the indicator shows one bar. And after a while it shows all the bars. But continue charging when plugged back into the charger.

Other times it charges from flat to full in just over an hour.

But on average it takes about 3 to 4 hours to charge the battery and it feels a bit warm when done.

Anybody else having these problems?
 
Yip, it seems as if we have the same problem. The thing is I dont want to take my phone back cause I have waited long for it. I dont know if it is normal for the phone to do as it does. Any help or advice would be appreciated
 
Battery status wierdoes...

I think that there are probably software "issues" with the battery monitor. I have the same kind of problems with my 6680 -- but I suspect the battery monitor is lying at times, or has just stopped working. You'll also notice sometimes that you'll put the phone on to charge, and it will still show nearly empty. But switching the phone off and back on will then show a full battery.

I've had other software "issues" with the phone -- had it switch itself off while using GPRS when it still had a fairly full battery. Sometimes after running various apps, it will behave oddly and need to be switched off and back on. Opera doesn't coexist with the other web browser -- it kills it when you start up Opera. And if I run field test, then I can't use GPRS at all in any app without restarting the phone, and if I have a GPRS connection open, then field test just hangs when starting.

Bluetooth does seem to chow the battery -- as do various other apps, especially if you keep the display on a lot...while watching celltracker or playing a game.

I managed to flatten the battery in a day yesterday by being on the Internet pretty much the whole day at a conference.

I've just been spending the last 3 days in EDGE territory here in PE -- and I'm impressed. Telkom speed tests have run between 150-220Kbps, and bandwidth place has varied between 92 and 170Kbps. What was more impressive -- I'm at a conference at the NMMU conference center where there's free WiFi for the campus network (which has a 2680Kbps link to TENET)...and EDGE is consistently faster...I did an overseas speedtest and got 65Kbps through WiFi and 120Kbps on EDGE.

Now I just have to make some noise about getting EDGE back at home -- we only have GPRS on the cell in our town. On the MTN coverage map I see that there is EDGE coverage down the N2 from Empangeni past our place. And I've seen the Y'ELLO BROADBAND cell broadcast on the tower accross the Highway about 5km away, but not on the tower in town. :(. Does anybody who cares want me to send cell IDs? (And can anybody tell me how to get celltracker to show cell names? Is there a setting for CBS that gets this info?)

There is an app called "celltracker" that will log all the BTSes that you use to a DB on your 6680. It will also keep the EGPRS details for you...

Can't say that I have had any problems with my 6680 and charging, it takes the standard 2 or so hours like all symbian phones.
 
Has the charging issue been resolved? I still have to switch off the phone when I it needs recharging.

I guess a trip to Nokia to update the software might help.

If you can pick up the signal from the EDGE tower use the netmonitor menu to lock onto that tower. Load the netmonitor menu available from www.symbian-freak.com. Menu 6.12 tells you if the tower supports EDGE ("EGPRS support" on menu 6.12). Lock onto a specific tower with menu 1.12 of netmonitor where you enter the channel number in hex format (convert decimal to hex with Windows calculator).
