Battlefield 2

HI there, long time no post.

I just finished downloading and installing the Euro Force booster pack.

I added the new servers to my favs, but they are marked in red after logging in - am I missing a patch or is there a trick to getting Euro Force going?

dude i have no idea

since the latest patch when i join a EF server, it tell me i dont have the maps

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The latest patch is 1.30. Make sure you reinstall that one after the EF installation. Also, to be safe, download the full patch and use that one instead of the incremental patch.

ADSL & Wi-Fi

Someone asked about playing BF2 on iburst...... I am also playing BF2 on Wi-Fi. I can only play late evenings or early mornings. My ping is anything between 68 & 600+. But during the above times my avg. is 120.
I do have 1 question though........ if you are trying to snipe someone that is running from left to right for eg. do you have to compensate by aiming a little ahead of him just like one would do when hunting in real life? And does the bullet of a sniper rifle in BF2 also arch so that one would also have to aim higher when sniping long range?

yes, you have to compensate during the enemy running alongside, not sure about the elevation compensation though... perhaps RN65 will clarify that as he is a dedicated sniper.

Regards bullet drop... although the physics of bullet drop are coded into the game...

the effective bullet drop on an M24 or M88 aren't really a consideration when you're talking about the tiny ranges in the game.

IRL these weapons have effective ranges in the KM's whereas in the game you can only see a couple of hundred meters.

Ok thanx ppl. Doeas it matter where you snipe a guy? will he die easier if you hit him in the leg or chest.... or is it all the same?

Headshots are the key...

a healthy soldier would take more than one hit in the chest or legs... so it's all important.

There are also some good guides on the net regarding sniping in BF2, where to lie and how to shoot etc. just GOoOgle for them.

if you snipe a lot use claymores to cover your back... or will be knifed till no end. ;)

jdjoubert, affirmative to both questions. If a guy is running and you want to hit him, you have to aim slightly ahead of him. There is also bullet drop in BF2, but no sideways drift as would be in real life if there was wind. So the general recipe is: to hit a standing guy, aim slightly above the head (there is no cut-and-dry formula, because all the rifles perform differently, and you have to take your general trajectory into consideration, i.e. do you shoot straight, downwards or updards). To hit a running guy, aim ahead of him.

It does matter where you hit a guy, and it does matter even more which rifle you use. All sniper rifles take one shot to the head to kill a guy, but while the american/euro rifles (M24, M95, L96A1) take two body shots, the far east rifles (SVD, Type 88) take three.

Just hope your team mates are clever enough to not blow themselves up on your bombs... I think they sorted out the punishing thing in the later patches re: mines and claymores.

Negative. There's still enough idiots running into friendly claymores, and they still punish.

Wow! thanx very much. This surely helps. I joined 2day on MyADSL, and this forum seems to be the place when in need of advice. I will google to c if I can find more info on sniping in BF2. Thanx again.......

Thanks

I saw alot of this around, so i tried it post install using the incremental patch (all the patches again actually) but still no luck.

Looks like I may have to consider the full patch option.

I thought I'd quickly pop in here ... after not playing any sort of PC game for the last 2 years, and loving BF1942, I have to say that after playing for about 3 hours last night (on a relatively) sub-par machine, I am hooked ... again :)

BF2 rocks! And I must say, maybe I am just out of practise, but it seems to be a bit more difficult than BF1942.

Anyways, need to get some more practise before Friday ... maybe take a day off work :D

If all goes well today and my ADSL line installation is done, I too will join the fray. :)

Too be honest tho I really miss my BF1942. :( The gameplay was awesome. BF2 will just have to do for now. :p

See you guys on the battlefield. :)

PS: LandyMan, try hosting a co-op game with the bots difficulty level set at max. It's what I'm doing now while I wait. It helps to hone the skills a bit. Just be ready to get pi$$ed off. Those bots pull some crazy moves sometimes.

I am a NOOB.
How do you host a co-op game? I heard of it before. but do you have to be online to do this, or is it in single player mode?

You select multiplayer, create game. Then in the top righthand corner of the map select box you should see a smaller box with Conquest in it. Click on that box and you should see an extra option called Co-Op. Select that then select how many bots you want, their skill level etc.

Only problem is that you can only play 16 player maps. :(
