well changed my gfx this morning and it was initially on HIGH on the AUTO setting.

granted I think some of the hectic options were off.

I changed it to MEDIUM instead and it still looks insane.

and I run a stock i5-750 with 5850

I'm due for a CPU upgrade. No idea how CPU hungry this game is but my poor old dual core is going to scream
My GFX - 9600GT (512) is also not the best but it will do the job for now. I'm contemplating an upgrade just for BF3 tbh.

What are the settings set to? And whats the resolution?

What were the default settings on the Beta?? I must say, I didn't even think of tinkering... Singleplayer I will max out, but MP I'm not so sure....

But yeah bud, it would take a lot for this game to NOT look pretty

Default settings were automatic I think, meaning the game decided whats best for your system. When i tried changing the settings the graphics didn't change that much (Med - Ultra did little). I think they were held back a bit because it was beta. Definately going to max it out in MP but I reckon I'll tone it down somewhat after a while. The shadows and lighting are too damn real!!

Just got a DLC download code from Take2 for the pre-order goodies. I can only assume that this means that the games have started shipping.

As far as I know, you didn't actually have ultra detail available in the beta. Graphics were mostly set to "high", even if you changed them. Not sure which ones were locked, however.

That is completely wrong.

edit: it just looks like a modified BC2 ranking. In BF3 you'll got up to Colonel at rank 45, and then get service stars, so max rank (145) is Colonel 100 Star. You only unlock gameplay stuff up till rank 45, then afterwards you get dogtags, etc, afaik.
