Battlefield 3

oooo I can't wait.

Will be able to play BF3 tonight. Time to get me some epic kills again. I missed BF3 so much

Any more feedback (likes dislikes ) on the new update...besides the DL issues.? have not had a chance to play yet.

Automatic fire accuracy got nerfed :( Yet i still seem to get owned by people with g36c, even when i shoot them with a big ass assault rifle.

And im not quite sure what I should set the network interpolation to!?

But be honest, the Assault rifles where way to accurate. Since when does one one shot kill with a M240 ? running around with a 20KG weapon in your hands...
Grounded on a bipod for sure, but not in the hands...

What is this?

Its quite complicated to explain what it actually is. But it basically 'smooths out' packet flow between your PC and the game server, since packets of data from other players are sent periodically and not constantly. If other player's positions were represented by the game 100% accurately, the game would represent their position on the map each time their PC sends a packet of data to the server, so in other words, a 100% true representation of other players by the game, would result in people skipping along the map, instead of running along the ground smoothly. So interpolation basically smooths this out, by predicting where the player would be, before the next packet of data is actually received from his PC, resulting in smooth animations and movement of all players on the map.

The downside to this, is that interpolation actually increases the latency which you experience, and therefore may cause inaccurate hit registry. An example of this manifestation, is when you run behind a wall but still somehow get hit by one or two bullets from the guy who was shooting at you.

Interpolation always existed in BF3. DICE has now just given us control over the amount of interpolation. So lowering the amount of interpolation will give you a more accurate representation of players on the map, but animation smoothness will suffer and you may get stuttering/lagging/jumping/rubberbanding effects if it is set too low. If you set interpolation too high, you get perfectly smooth animations, but your hit reg and accuracy may suffer, as what you are seeing on your screen may not actually be exactly where another player is at that exact moment.

Its a useful feature that DICE has given us, but they have failed to explain it to everyone, and they have failed to explain when and how we should change it, and what the default level always was (before the option was made available in the gameplay settings menu).

Note that my explanation may be incorrect. Its just my understanding of how it works. Perhaps someone else knows abit more.
To change the setting, see the gameplay settings menu in-game.

Its quite complicated...

Wow. Thanks for typing that all out. Seems like it something that can be changed during a game as well. Think I'll play around a bit with the setting and see where it feels right. Hate dying when I'm round corner!

ooh which reminds me - need to set those weapons on burst fire or tap-tap-tap with mouse

No prob!
Yeah its basically a process of making it as low as possible without causing any visual or animation disturbances.

The dying around a corner thing though gets complicated further by the difference in pings between your pc, the other players pc, and the server latency settings. So this issue may not be able to be completely eradicated. However a difference in hit reg accuracy should be noticed by those who have had problems.

Dude,

Tap tap tap = dead dead dead. Sure it's no longer hold down mouse button kill. Tap tap tap they die. If anything by doing this the accuracy has done through the roof and it makes sense to have it this way.

@abdul89
Thanks for your post about the network interpolation, its the best description/explanation I have come across that makes sense.
Have any of you guys made any adjustments and seen a difference or left it at default?

Downloaded the update last night, took about 5 hours to download.

I've been playing Skyrim mostly the past couple of weeks but will definitely be on tonight.

Hopefully I can do something about my 0.35KD ratio :)

And here I was thinking my 0.8 is bad :D

And I have over 1500 kills. Trying to make up the 0.2 is going to be one hell of an effort

Played last night. Frogfoot/thunderbolt appears to handle better/more responsive.
AT mines over nerfed imo - lasts only 20sec after death

Why nerf the mines :(

They should stay there as long as you who planted them play Engineer. If you change kit then have them despawn :( What is the use of them now? Tank will now just rape harder than ever

edit:
O and my aim is completely off now with all the machine guns. It's like I have never played BF before. Also seems like my Hit reg isn't working correctly. I will have to play around with that feature you guys mentioned. That or just get used to it as is. Didn't have enough time to really play it last night as I only got it running close to 1am. Will give better feedback on Monday.

Pet Peeve:

WTF is with the ugly GFX when someone dies... There is a Skull with bones on it and it looks like a 3yo kid did the design of that icon. They better fix it very soon. It's annoying the hell out of me. This game is eye candy and then that... It will make me quit playing it if they don't fix it.

It shouldn't be, as i said... play smart with tanks and you can easily go 20+/0 provided the enemy does not have good pilots.

I never come close to 20 - 0

More like 16 - 14 or there about. Lately it's more like 8 - 23.

Ouch... it's worse than I thought:

Kills 2 235
Deaths 2 823
K/D Ratio 0.792
