I have three PCs at home and I've tested this on all three. An odd thing I noticed night before last, bf4.exe hits 40% CPU usage on my dual Westmere (24 threads at 3.4 GHz) system when loading and then drops to around 7% in game. On the other two (Bloomfield at 3.7 GHz and Sandy Bridge at 4.7 GHz) it hits 100% when loading and drop to around 30-40% in game. Odd that loading hits the CPU so hard. Why is that?

Nope...

Oldish drivers, from very early this year

i7-2600K @ 4.7 GHz
Asus P8P67
16 GB RAM
GTX 680
Newer drivers, circa June this year
Windows 7 Home Premium

Xeon E5645 x2 @ 3.4 GHz
EVGA Classified SR-2
48 GB RAM
2x GTX 780
Driver version 344.75
Windows 7 Ultimate

I do not have the same problem. It peaked at 47% while loading and runs at 10% usage on average

You're the guy that was moaning about this issue last night on Mirage 24/7 Lockers server?

Yeah I was, but I was moaning about losing about 100 FPS Thursday before last, which went away by itself about five days later. I don't know what that was about, but BF4 seems to be having several issues lately. Last week everyone was complaining about the audio sounding distant and muted. Meh, I just fired up some Quake 3, so much better :p

Runs at an average of 30%, peaked at around 50%

In game, the usage is quite low. It's the level loading that kills the CPU. Next time you join a server, bring up Task Manager and check your CPU usage on bf4.exe while the icon is showing on the taskbar but before the game appears on screen. CPU usage seems to max out between eight and ten cores.
