BB bold 9700 ALT button

Hey guys, recently I've been having a problem.
Before i would be able to hold the Alt button and type commas, fullstops etc.....
Now if i hold the Alt button, i can't press anything else while holding...
Only if i press and let go will i be able to type a comma etc....
Its really annoying as important not used to those at all...
I've done a full clean wipe of the phone, still the same...
I've pulled my battery out etc, it would be working for a few mind but would go back to not working...
Does anyone know whats wrong with my phone?
Im thinking of installing the whole device firmware?

Im n ot sure about the why, but there is an easier way. Your doing what i used to before i started following BBTips on twitter.

Instead of holiding alt in to hit multiple punctuations or numbers just tap it and tap left **** puts it on charachter lock, right shift is caps lock.
Might not be the solution you need but it will do what your require in the end.

that is quite perculiar

so i went home and reinstalled the firmware... still the same...
then i took my new phone cover i got the weekend off and it was fine....put the cover back on, and the alt wouldn't work again. the cover was half pressing the camera button causing the alt button not to function properly...
