BB Pearl 8100 questions

Good day (or night) all,

Does anybody know whether the Blackberry Pearl 8100 is available with the Afrikaans language pack? I am looking at getting it on a weekender, as it comes with 12 months Blackberry subscription.

Can I use my Gmail with the push mail functionality?

Yes, it looks like it comes with Afrikaans - at least it's listed under input languages.

And yes - you can use gmail - either via a standalone google app or via IMAP

So the Gmail would go via the BIS and thus incur no charges to be delivered to the phone?

Do you use the GTalk application?

You have a couple of choices with GMAIL - you can either auto forward it to your vodacom blackberry address or you can set the blackberry up to access gmail directly via imap (or pop). There are a couple extra steps involved with vodacoms blackberry service to get gmail to work so let me know if you get stuck.

I use gtalk and yahoo messenger.

- Can you use Opera Mini on the BB 8100?
- Does the GMail app / GTalk app use BlackBerry data, or the normal Internet Access Point?

You can only use opera when you use the internet APN - vodacom for some reason wont let you use it with the all inclusive blackberry apn. IOW - if you want to use Opera you're going to have to pay for data.

You're fine with gmail/gtalk.

Basically . . . anything that works with the default blackberry apn is inclusive.
