BB user exploring new phone options

Spent 5 minutes demonstrating iPhone to a long time Bb user - they went out on Sunday and got iPhone.

Friends' digs - originally 1 iPhone user, 4 Bb users and 1 Nokia user. Now 5 iPhone users and one with Nokia got an iPad.

Enough said...

_Nothing_ beats jailbroken iPhone. Trumps any Android.

So.... name one thing iPhone does that android doesnt?

Doesn't have any IPS screens?

Not sure of your question, but iPhone:

Best OS
Best utilisation of hardware
Best applications
Best compliance with other sites/media/etc
Ease of use, while you have the option to go advanced and tinker

I have nothing against Android. Far ahead of Bb. But still not ahead of iOS. I have no doubt it will be in the future, give them a year or two.

All of that is YOUR opinion and no facts?

Thats why there is more Android phones out there than iOS?

Best utilisation of hardware

By limiting what the user can and can not do with his phone

Best applications

By limiting what Developers are allowed to sell in the app store

Best compliance with other sites/media/etc

By forcing you to convert media and use iTune's to add media to your library

Ease of use, while you have the option to go advanced and tinker

Both phones are exactly the same as I have seen kids the age of 4 on Android phones use it with ease and Adults the age of 35 struggling to use a iPhone. Ease of use depends on a mindset and simply both phones are on par as for advance tinker, good luck getting your iPhone to connect to pppoe or even share folders on the phone using samba let alone copy from samba shares on a PC onto your device.

Yes I give you that iOS takes Design over functionality but must say that android trumps iOS when it comes to functionality, every time. I can also add that if you really want iOS design you can even get that in the Android world with ROM's like MIUI.us as seen here

And we havent even started talking about Android +'s like Unified file system, no need for cloud services to move files from one application to another or customization, where you can make Android look and act like iPhone to Windows Phone 7 or nothing like any other phone out there.

Those are all very subjective but I'm sure you're smart enough to know that.
AMOLED/Super AMOLED screens seem at least as good as the iPhone 4 screen to me, if not quite as high res. These days they are at least bigger.

The OS is hardly the best. It barely even does multitasking. The notifications system in android beats pretty much everything.

Best apps? Pretty much all of those are available on android. In the past a lot of developers have made iOS only apps (eg. that quadrocopter thing) but that should be changing very quickly now that android has a higher market share.

Compliance? I'm not even sure what you mean there. It doesn't even have out of the box flash support. Does it play divx out of the box?

Ease of use I'd have to disagree as well. People have asked me to help me figure things out on their iphones cos they couldn't and I couldn't either. I think most of the "ease" of use comes from not being able to do anything. (set an mp3 as a ringtone?)

*yawn*

Not even ganna read.

Used them all - BB 8520, 9300, 9700, 9780(?), 9800 Torch

Android - SGS, SGS 2, multiple HTCs

Nothing comes close to Apple iPhone for me.

As I said, iPhone and Android phones are right up there. Android comes in a close second. And like I said, I have no doubt Android will be better than iOS in coming years.

Oh, and Jealbreaking really does seal the deal. Nothing compares.

Except rooting...

As far as I know, rooting is not necessary to run "third party" apps.

The key is the amount and quality of those apps, in comparison to iOS.

Generally speaking, iOS users have the money. IT makes sense that they'd get better apps - more in it for the devs.

Indeed rooting is not necessary at all for running any apps you like. Once you've rooted and installed a custom bootloader you have flexibility you will never get in the iphone world.
Can you point out some examples of these amazing high quality apps that android users can only dream of?

According to August report done by r2g Android developers make more money on Business and Productivity applications than the iOS counterparts where Games and entertainment reigns king. What counters this is that most games are free or add supported in Android where the Apple versions are normally paid only.

Sure if you want a toy go get a iPhone, if you want a proper tool, get Android. Beside, name me one functional application that can not be had on Android?

So if I want a "magic fiddle" get an iphone? :D

Could not care less. Came here to share my opinion, not debate against Android fanbois.

That is exactly why I was trying to point out, its YOUR personal opinion, and yes you are welcome to it, my problem is that you tried to make your opinion seem like fact.

and its not about being a Android Fanboy, as I have an iPhone 4, and can not wait to get the new iPhone 5 either, but then again I dont have to use only one phone and can normally compare the different OS's side by side and not base my opinion on a friends phone, or what I see in the media.

Thanks for the compliment. My opinions are that convincing, hey.

Saying that you've used them all, have you done so for a month or more? I'm guessing not. I've owned an SGS now for more than a year and recently decided to upgrade my one contract to an iPhone 4, for want of something different. After using the iPhone now for a month as my primary phone and jumping back to my SGS this week, I realize how utterly restricted I was on the iPhone. The "crispness" of the IPS screen is negligible as my eyes cannot differentiate the higher resolution between that and the Super AMOLED screen of the SGS under normal use. I have to view the screens from a distance of around 5-10cm to actually see a difference, but that might only be because the SGS has a 0.5" size (dis?)advantage over the iPhone. The Super AMOLED wins in terms of brightness and contrast - BY FAR.

The iPhone 4 is a great device, make no mistake, but I won't go as far as stating that it trumps all Android devices in every department. I see iOS as the pretty blonde girl who's extremely easy to get into bed on the first date, but you end up having a very shallow relationship and eventually end up ditching her for a longer-term commitment. Android, on the other hand, is the smart (but not too unsightly) brunette who first seduces you with her wit and charm before agreeing to go to bed after the fifth date. She will ultimately be more satisfying in the longer term as there will always be something else to learn about her that you didn't know before.

Is it Jailbroken?

All Iphone and Android Smartphones, battery life sucks, If you are lucky it lasts 1 day without charging.
I've had an Iphone 4 and HTC Desire HD, used both for more than 3 months, sold them and bought a IPAD + a nokia 5130. Just a plain phone with a 2mp camera, that can sync my calendar and contacts. I need nothing more in a phone, battery is good for 5 - 7 days without charging, If I want to I use apps I use the IPAD. Battery life is excellent. Biggest gripe with Androind Tablets is the price, especially 10" models.

Why do people start threads like this. They have no use whatsoever. It just ends up being a war of the fanbois. If anyone is looking for a new device, its best to go to the store and try both for yourself and see what you like.

I totally disagree with you. As the OP, I knew ziltch about android phones. As a result of the answers on this thread, my original questions were answered, I was given advice on which phone to look at and steer away from and as a direct result, here I am 72 hours later about 20 minutes away from collecting my new Galaxy S2.
