Hi All,

Ported my sim to CellC on a StraightUp contract on the 1st, leaving Vodacom behind. My SP has activated BIS but the 8520 (the old one from Voda) doesn't seem to be working properly on the CellC network. I can browse, but BBM and email are not working.

Wondering if my SP/network has to make any changes? Should I phone voda, cellc or the service provider?

Do you have BIS activated? Do see GPRS / EDGE in capital letters or lower case. If lower case then your BIS is not active.

Thanks for that! Guess they haven't done their part then despite claims to the contrary!

What is the process behind the scenes, does the device's pin have to be removed from the Vodacom blackberry network first, before CellC can add it to theirs or something?

Hi,

I did similar. Was on contract on VC, then went to prepaid for a few days before porting. Am not on Prepaid on CellC and did enable the BIS service. I must say the BIS service seems a bit up and down, where it was pretty stable on VC.

I did take a shortcut and do the middle tier BIS package on CellC, which doesnt include whatsapp, which i think will use normal data rates. so maybe thats why things are up and down?

Am giving it a few days... to see how things go...

Will be interested to know your experiences after you enable BIS....

My SP resolved the issue, claimed it would take 2 working days but it was on by the time the call ended.

So far I'm happy, the straightup contract was just too good to ignore as far as I'm concerned.

I find VC services, such as setting up voicemail much more user friendly than CellC - and finding out info on how todo things is a pita. Network wise, it does seem a bit more delayed than VC but that could just be the area I'm in and the 8520 relying on EDGE - I did go for the full BIS but will change it down a level next month. Who knows :)
