London - A “fearless” former BBC journalist hanged herself in an airport toilet in a spur of the moment decision after missing a flight, an inquest has heard.

Veteran war reporter Jacqueline Sutton, 50, was found hanged in a cubicle at Ataturk airport in Istanbul after she missed a connecting flight to Iraq last October.

Sutton had landed in the Turkish capital from Heathrow with the intention of travelling on to Erbil in Iraq, North London Coroner's Court was told.

The BBC producer had been working as the Iraq director of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), a London-based charity network.

She missed her connecting flight, however, after drinking two cans of beer in the departure lounge, the court heard.

Staff said Sutton had told them she had no money, before becoming visibly upset and going into the airport toilets.

He told the court: “She made an exit from the lounge displaying no signs of dismay or distraction. But she had missed her flight. She told the staff she had no money to pay for another and began crying. They told her that nothing could be done.”

Not sure if serious...

“Unless there is clear evidence she committed suicide, she was definitely murdered,” Hiwa Osman, a friend of Sutton’s in Iraq and former media advisor for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting, told The Telegraph. Sutton was bringing back toys and books for his children and that there was no indication she was unhappy, Osman said.

Someone with immensely strong goals does not murder themselves in an airport with shoelaces on a whim.

Well things do not seem to add up...

Some reports state about 2500 euros where found in one of her bags...than there is this ....

Weird story. Also as a BBC reporter, how many flights would you have missed through the years...I'm guessing quite a few. Unless someone spiked her beer with some crazy schit, I find it hard to believe a fearless war reporter would take her own life during a panic attack

Yeah, it all seems very odd.
