BBC: Zimbabwe abandons its currency

Zimbabweans will be allowed to conduct business in other currencies, alongside the Zimbabwe dollar, in an effort to stem the country's runaway inflation.

The announcement was made by acting Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa.

Ok, explain this to me: How in the bejonkers can the Zimbabwean populace take this much punishment for so long? If this was a westernized country (EU, US, Canada etc), the people would have gone insane and heads would roll. The last time a westernized country had this kind of hyper inflation it went to war with all the other nations and damn well nearly won.

Even in South Africa, the clever people are leaving SA in droves and we aren't even close to Zimbabwe status (although inflation is very high here).

So what's with Africa that it can tolerate, nay, love this kind of misery?

Refugees are leaving Zim in droves, and coming here.
Others probably just simply can't afford to leave.

Refugees are leaving Zim yes, why are they not deposing / annihilating / head chopping the main azzwipe?

Why? I ask, WHY?

They don't have the cajones, that's why .. so they come to SA and prey on the unarmed, the infirm, the weak.

I hate them!

(not the ones that come here and try to make an honest, good, life for themselves by working hard, building up their skills and providing a service to the community at large)

Thanx to our governments lack of involvement i would imagine within 5 years, majority of zimbabwe's population will reside in SA

Zimbabwe’s central bank revalued its dollar again today, lopping another 12 zeros off its battered currency to try to tame hyperinflation and avert total economic collapse.
