I installed it , configured a Vodacom profile , set the APN to internet and did a speedtest from http://speed.vodacom.co.za/

See pics for results.

The speeds indicate a classic example of why NOT to use a phone as a modem especially if it is only a EDGE/GPRS device.
I don't have a 3G Bold / Storm to test the same way but even at 384k for instance with the phone running BIS / BES traffic whilst connected via USB to a PC and being "tethered" & active I would NOT expect a miracle in speeds.

If you want "quicker" connectivity then the usual HSDPA modems are in my opinion recommended.

My option to use a modem goes away after i connect the phone :( The tour with hsdpa 7.2 would have work so nice :)

Over the years, I've found that you get very decent down/upload speeds when using cellphones as modems. Just tested my BB Storm against my Novatel MC950D modem, using the same Vodacom data sim and the Vodacom Mobile speed test in the same location.
BB Storm down/up: 3149/418 kbps
Novatel MC950D: 3355/636

Maybe something wrong with your setup?

You miss the part in all my speedtests where I mentioned that I use a Curve 8900 device (no 3G/HSDPA) on them :D

The point I was trying to make is that cellphone modems should give speeds about 90% of that achieved by data modems. Obviously, if your modem is 3G/HSDPA and your cellphone is EDGE or less, there is no comparison.
