I was looking for something specific and saw it was "on promotion" at Pick and Pay (online store).

I added the goods to my basket and checked out. Then I saw the price was back to normal, asking myself why or what (on the processed invoice)

I choose the option to fetch it at a certain pickup point (pick and pay).

A week later, endless requests to explain I got an answer "The goods isnt any more on special if you choose to pick it up yourself".

Lesson learned. More scary, the debit order taken was more than quoted also.

My first and last time buying online with Pick and Pay (be warned) !!!!

Does the invoice reflect the higher or lower amount? I bought some stuff and my assumption was that it was online-only, since the in-store price was higher. Collected the stuff and my invoice matches the lower price. Must still check the amount charged to the credit card though.

Only used them once, and then there were items missing from our order list and we were billed for the missing items, so we decided not to use them again

Much higher amount. Querying this, after a week I got the reply, the promotion is online sales (if you get it delivered), and not when you fetch it.

It really doesnt make any sense. One would think if you fetch it, it will be cheaper for the store also (but actually online orders gets delivered or rather shipped from a warehouse to a pickup point.)

Exactly my view, my first and last time using them. Paid school fees for life with this lesson

So you approved the order for R500, but they charged R1000 - that ain't nice.

Did you not work through the picking/packing list before signing? The pnp delivery dude always waits and works through the document with me. Had a missing item once, from what I recall - I marked it and they refunded that amount. I even got a credit note and everything.

No, didn't know this is how they operated. When we notified them of the missing items, they also said you should have gone through the list with the delivery guy. Anyway, when we shop it's normally 2 full trolleys so probably to much pt to double check

Not cool at ALL. The best part for me is, PnP wanted to take more than "approved" and the bank declined it, and I got hit with fees. Its a nice way to cap merchants if they want to take more.

I now spend a week trying to explain to PnP they are wrong and they must really look into this. I got the cold shoulder and just the reply, "for online orders being picked up, the discount / promotion price is voided".

I tried calling them, on the phone for hours, they really dont understand this scenario. Emailing, I think I have 10 reference numbers. Twitter .... they are following up (but still, no joy in my saga).

So .... if you shop online, stay clear from Pick and Pay (I also wrote a nice email to the CEO) ... But nothing will become of that either.

I wonder what the consumer protection act would do in a case like this ....

Caveat emptor. I check all orders. All deliveries. Every time. I then endorse the document with whatever is wrong. Covers you down the road.

Of all the couriers and delivery dudes, the pnp folk have been the most accommodating of all when I do this. They actively encourage this (with 100% of my orders with them). The document even asks you to fill in the big ass boxes stating that you inspected 2 boxes, 1 cooler bags, then how many of them were sealed etc etc. It does not take more than a few minutes.

If the price showed R500 at checkout, and they changed it to e.g., R1000 after the fact - you have a valid argument. I would suggest you change your tune a bit:

Price was X at checkout. Sure it indicated on-line only. But this purchase was wholly completed online. Even the invoice states that it is an online order. I was presented with the option and opted to collect my online order, and even indicated that choice by selecting the appropriate pickup point - affording PNP the opportunity to change the pricing before checkout, but the checkout price did not change at that point. PNP and I agreed to the price of X at checkout and I authorized my bank to pay X to PNP. PNP then changed the invoiced amounts in their favour and charged this higher amount to my bank account, without my approval. PNP is not acting in good faith. I hereby demand that the difference of Y be refunded to me with immediate effect. Should this not happen within 14 days I would be forced to take the matter further.

What did you buy, by the way?

And you are spot on ........ (with the last section of the post). I have a total valid argument
