Is there anyone else here on the Beacon Bay (East London) exchange. My speeds are perfect in the morning, but in the late afternoon and evenings my speeds drop making even general browsing difficult. What is really strange though, is that after I did the speed test, I opened my YouTube app and videos were streaming fine. Everything else was a total bust....

I'm in Abbotsford on MTN and the quality has been bad for a week now, I used to get 3G speeds but now on edge most of the time.

Not sure about adsl though.

East London has been very slow for the past 2 months or so.. especially in the evening

Why you bringing 3G to a ADSL thread?

I have the exact same problem here in Vredehoek, Cape Town... Full 2Mbps in during morning hours and this slows down to 0.55Mbps during the day and evening!! Very frustrating and no amount of complaints to Telkom seems to get them to realise that my exchange is congested, which is most likely your problem to.

I am having a problem in Stirling as well @nyt the speed are terrible since my line was upgraded we having the problems

I'm on the same exchange, but everything is fine from my side. There are two dslam however, as far as I know and you may be connected to a different one than me.

I know I was moved to a different dslam during the upgrades. Will have a look into it and perhaps request to be moved back.

I'm on the old one, yes stuck on 4mbps. Last time TelkomZa checked the DSLAM I was connected to and it was only 13% utilised.
So maybe it's a good thing I stayed on the older one :)

Well, so far so good this afternoon. Speeds have normally dropped by now (hope I am not tempting fate). Hopefully they have sorted things out.

Telkom uncapped..What isp are you on?

Ahhh that explains it. When I switch to my telkom account, I get the very same thing as you. Sometimes full speed, then all of a sudden pings are really bad and speed not even 1mbps.

I'm currently using Afrihost and Webafrica , both work 100%. Try a trial account from either of them and see if it sorts out your problems.

I have a test account to use. Am waiting for the speeds to go haywire and then will give it a try....

Sitting 200m away from the exchange here in Beacon Bay, IS limits me to strange speeds in the evening until about 11PM, SAIX is fine.

Friday -> http://noahi.me/nmkkk at 22:05:16

You are not very specific so I can't really comment :

1) What is your ADSL profile at the moment
2) What ISP did you compare (telkom isp or reseller of SAIX)
3) Do you use an uncapped IS account (if so, then it's self explanatory if it's a cheapie :)

So far there is nothing wrong with the exchange that I can tell. But if you have probs, let's hear about it and get Telkom to resolve it. (as for their ISP department, well they are aware of it and PE and EL in the same boat).

Connection Uncapped 4mb
TelkomSA capped 5GB

Possibly, this problem is rather new and wasn't around last month. I first assumed ISP giving me crap then i saw this thread.

Very strange, I'm on the same exchange and no problems. Anyhow if you hit slow speeds again, please do a tracert (local and int.) so we can see if it is indeed the exchange or the ISP hampering us.

Im also in the Beacon Bay area guys, having the exact same problem. Line was working like magic in December, but now it has turned to absolute crap. Have to do a million router reboots, in the afternoon, as the line will work fine and then suddenly drop. Morning the line is perfect.
Was looking at some of my router stats, SNR not looking good at all, i don't think changing ISP will help though? what do you guys suggest?

Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 512
Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 4096
Line standard G.dmt
Channel type Fast
Upstream SNR (dB) 12
Downstream SNR (dB) 7.5
Upstream line attenuation (dB) 22
Downstream line attenuation (dB) 37.5
Upstream output power (dBmV) 9.5
Downstream output power (dBmV) 19.5
Upstream CRC 0
Downstream CRC 5776
Upstream FEC 0
Downstream FEC 0
