Has anyone got any good documentation of the workings of how you go about becoming a reseller.

If for example I want to setup my own radius server and resell SAIX bandwidth how do I go about doing it?

What software for example do companies like openweb/axxess use to control the cap, allow users to buy more bandwith etc?

Is it all home grown software or is there something off the shelf that will do it?

Both Openweb and Axxess have reseller account options. Why don't you sign up with one of them and see how it works. They have web based interfaces to manage/create client accounts. Its quite simple and doesn't cost much to setup.

Hi Greg

Webafrica has two options for DSL resellers, standard SAIX; IS data bundles and per GB Realms. In order to become a DSL reseller you would need to sign up a account with 3 monthly DSL packages, Webafrica supplies you with everything that is needed to be a reseller. Please see http://www.webafrica.co.za/reseller/ for more information and pricing, please PM me if you need more information or if you would like me to contact you. :o

DSL Groups from WebAfrica is the way to go...

The DSL group product is branded and therefore not suitable for reselling however we are intending on releasing a reseller version of the DSL groups at a later stage.

Currently we offer a reseller program which is a non branded product range which covers hosting as well as Internet access needs

With regard to reseller Internet access, we alternatively can offer realm registration(s) which would allow one to setup your internet subscribers with a custom name (for example: users@yourrealmname) with the option of switching over to a pay per GB used as opposed to per package ordered system:)

I know its quite easy(or atleast they say so) to be a reseller for an ISP these days. You get the benefit of branding your own company name, own control panel etc.

The only thing thats a bit difficult, I would assume is how does one go about for a helpdesk/customer support?

Are there any ISP Reseller Packages that provide you, the reseller, with support for your customers?

I mean at the end of the day you are selling their product.

This is true but it would have a tremendous negative impact on the end user and reseller pricing if ISPs offered this kind of support as it would sky rocket support overhead costs.

Web Africa does offer a partner program which allows one to refer clients as an alternative and earn commision based on these referrals. The clients would then be able to request support directly.

I thought that support for resellers might be a bit far fetched, but what if an ISP can provide you, the reseller, with an extra feature for which you pay. By providing support directly to your clients. Either to bill you, the reseller, per minute for helping your client(s) or a monthly bill for the amount of clients you have, hope I make some sense.

Thanks Jonathan, I'll have a look into WA's partner program too.

This could be done using a PABX system which could inform the hosting provider that it reseller xyzs client calling in and they could mimic that company and provide support however there are some short comings to this sort of system

1) It would increase the call volumes to the hosting providers call center which would have either a direct impact on quality of support or to meet the demand effect the pricing

2) It allows for human error as it is possible for the support agents to reveal to the client that they are signed up with a reseller. Most clients would prefer to deal directly which would then potentially impact the resellers revenue..

3) One would not have control over support levels or easy access to logs or stats based on the call volumes and so forth

If it were to be offered by an ISP I believe that it would have to be evaluated on an individual basis and as that would also more than likely impact the resellers overheads as well as the reseller having less control of the business my personal recommendation would be to rather look at setting up ones own support structure ;)

The reseller can always get support directly from the ISP even though the support isn't offered to the resellers clients :)

I am a reseller for one of the mentioned isp's in this threat, and it works out very well for me. I do not use the webhosting reseller options at all with it, as I found that about all hosting companies based in SA is too expensive, therefore I resell webhosting to my clients from an American company, enabeling me to supply webhosting packadges far cheaper than most that is around in SA. This webhosting includes the famous cpanel, where you have several scripts available to manage your own support ticket system for your clients support.

I suggest, to get a webhost that includes the cpanel feature, and make use of the scripts to install a ticket support system on your website. I use crafty syntex, and even have a live chat system available on it for my clients when they need support.
