Somewhere far far away.
I have been looking around for some information in setting up a
internet server .

We are currenlty reselling IS accounts for dial-up and ADSL users, but basically all our users are local people. I have been looking for some info on requirements in setting up
a server for dial-up users.

If anyone have some advice on where to look for the right information in
1) Setting up a server (Hardware and Software requirements)
2) What lines you need
3) Any other hardware requirements.

Would really like to be running my own customers on my own servers and not
pay someone else almost all my profit monthly.

Also info in running my ADSL customers on my own servers so my ADSL prices could become lower and more competitive.

Kind regards
Chris

Why are you wanting to invest in dial-up infrastructure? I have no market figures but i would be very surprised if there is positive growth in that sector... you would able to serve you customers for 2 to 3 years and then be sitting with a white elephant after that once everyone has moved to broadband connections.

You will notice that all resellers (pretty much most of the 'ISP's') are reselling either SAIX or IS ADSL (some Verizon ADSL now as well) Thats cause those are the only 3 companies that can afford the IPconnect that is used to connect into the ADSL backbone network (ATM cloud). I don't have exact numbers but I recall figures in the tens of thousands of rands per month for an entry level IPconnect.... unless you looking at that sort of turnover from you current ADSL client base then don't even bother considering it.
