Hi, I had my dsl line fitted last week, and got all my login info. but for the last week, i have been checking my usage on telkom.co.za/dsl.
I even rebooted my dsl router, check every day. my usage is not being logged. it registers no bytes.
is this normal for the first few weeks? will my first month of tracking only start next month?? or will i get a nasty surprise, log on and im 2 gigs over??

Thanks.

There is a delay of a few days, but I have heard about people that recieve uncapped accounts. It is not supposed to be like that, but no one is going to tell :P

Try to reach your cap, and if nothing happens, enjoy!

On another forum, a guy said he had a week delay too. but was still tracked for those days. at least i never assumed anything, so my usage is 1gb after 9 days.

Just another question, if i use 2.9gb by the 27th 12am... then theoritically, i could download any amount more for the next day, before 12am.

Can they penalise you for downloading a few more gigs on your last day before they realise you above your cap????

on your last day you can download as much as you want, if you uncapped and and isn't past midnight, then go crazy, just disconnect at like 23:45 to make sure it all ends on that day and doesnt carry onto the next month.

anyway a long time ago over christmas i wasn't logged for a good 10 days, but i wasn't worried about the cap, so i went ape, and when the log eventually started working, it didn't pick up my usage, so i scored, i reckon if your near the end of the month 25th+ and its not logging, go ahead, take advantage!

I read something on another thread that Telkomonopoly didn't appear to enforce the ADSL cap last December - something about them all being on holiday...

If anyone finds that thread, post a link to it please.

Eish! They did enforce the cap, well on 27th December anyways. Then I had to wait till 18:00, January 1 to get my international bandwidth back. Damn bastards.

Thanks for the tips guys, keep them coming.

I got connected beginnning of Feb and have a question about life after getting capped...sounds like a rap line ;).

When one goes over the 3gig limit and gets capped, how slow exactly does the international link become.
Can you guys give some numbers in terms of kb/s that you can download at?

Thanks

Well it depends how fast you reach it, on the 2nd day of the month its still usable, after that you might as well stop useing the internet

Thanks for the reply guys

So at that low speed, I guess you get webpage "time-outs"? :(
