Anyone been to a urologist?
Been wanting to consult one for some time, but the fact that s/he is going to stick his/her finger up my ass is uncomforting to say the least.

What do they check? Been reading on it and I would like to get it from someone who visited one.

It is comforting ? Pretty sure you are wrong there.

I had a consultation with a urologist. There was no ass involved, but he did remove a kidneystone via my urethra.

Why do you want to see one?

It all depends what exactly you are seeing the urologist for.

A finger up the ass is only one of many diagnoses you might undergo, but even that you'll get over after 30 minutes.

Sure as hell I won't volunteer for it, but having done it twice in my lifetime already it's not the end of the world.

Thought that was a Proctologist.

It's pretty clinical. Gloves & KY and bend over and a quick wiggling and before you know it you're standing at the cash register with your credit card out.
Ask him/her to milk that prostate while they're at it.:D

the fear of the unknown is more paralysing than actually going. i went once for a checkup and it wasnt embarrasing at all (had this huge fear of getting a boner while being examined, lol)

Wow. Kinda surprised by the responses. Older men should go regularly (lets say 35+) - mainly due to cancer. Prostate cancer is one of those that you catch early or you're fcked. Kinda like women should get regular papsmears. Its also suggested that guys get a checkup at ~16 too.

They mostly do ultrasounds now....assuming the doc has a machine.

Regardless though...uncomfortable you say...its a medical procedure. Deal with it.

When it comes to medical professionals & medical matters you leave your inhibitions at the door. If you don't you'll leave some crucial detail out because its awkward. And then the diagnosis is wrong - despite the docs best efforts. The doc has seen it all anyway, so you're really just shooting yourself in the foot.

There is a pretty reliable blood test for prostate cancer now...
