Before I Electrocute Myself, I Better Ask This Question

I have very little experience rewiring stuff but recently the plug (2 pin) broke off the chord on my LED lantern.
I planned to use some insulation tape (which I still need to buy) to connect it to the plug from an old camera charger. Yesterday I stripped the wires from my lantern and the plug I want to connect it to, so charger chord's both wires are black but wires from my charger chord are different colours.

I don't think it would make a difference which wires connect to which colour but I should double check to be sure.
In fact any other advice will be helpful.

Is it a normal Euro plug on the end of the lantern? Can't you put the wires in a new plug or is it too short? The wires doesn't matter if it's all the same colour.
 
On AC you can swap, at hearts content. Unless there is a switch, Switches should be on live.

DC not so much. on DC + must be +, and - must be -

2 point? It doesn't matter.

If it did a 2 point wouldn't be reversible.
 
Just put a new plug on that cable. If you really want to connect the two cables together at least get some shrink sleeving and not insulation tape for insulation. For a better and safer connection also solder the wires.

Crimping in a ferule is the correct way to join a cable, on DC you can use solder.

One of my favourite tools, don't think most people are even aware what they are but if one looks at the German and their panel wiring it just makes everything neat and secure.
