A beggar stole a woman's necklace after she refused to give him money, central Johannesburg police said on Thursday.
"[She] was stationary at a red robot when the suspect approached her car and begged for money. [She] told him that she does not have it; he grabbed her necklace and ran away," said spokesman Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele.
The 23-year-old man was arrested in Mayfair on Wednesday after police in the area chased and apprehended him.
The necklace was not recovered.
He would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court soon.
