Hi there

I am about to buy a Toshiba laptop (in the UK). Will the ethernet, wi-fi, etc work in South Africa? Is this stuff standard? It also doesn't seem to have a slot for a 3G card, do these work on USB ports now, or will this be a problem?

Sorry about the very beginner questions! :o

The Ethernet ports and Wifi should work. Most of the Service Providers in South Africa have both USB as well as slot type (pcmcia slot).

Yes, ethernet and Wifi will work, except for the same limitations that you would have in UK or any other country in the world. It is standard components sold worldwide.

Regarding 3G, many alternative, including USB, so yes.

Be careful however for the warranty. The warranty/gaurantee on many of these laptops is regional, especially if the laptop you are buying is not available in South Africa. Know a couple of people which ended up with a very expensive piece of metal shortly after they arrived in South Africa.

Thanks guys.

Jmak, what make did they buy. I am looking at Toshiba because they have an international warranty, but one does still worry!

Appart from the lions in the street and the monkeys in buildings, everything else seems to be up to date
