Ever since I became a father, I just want to spend time with my kid (now 2). At work I often think how much I'd rather be with him, kicking a ball or just running around.

However when I'm actually with him (after a while) I cant wait for his mom or nanny to take him cause he just drives me crazy sometimes...

Anyone experience this?

Being a dad is the best thing ever, but at the age of 2 my son was a frikken monster. Now we spend ages on the xbox together, (ok when he lets me play), but at 2, I used to check the back of his head to see if a 666 was forming, man he was a demon child.

roflol :D :D

I mostly work from home at the moment and love being around the little ****s but it can be a bit trying at times. Still, I'd rather spend this time with them now and then concentrate on my career at a later stage when they're older and have less time for dear-old-dad. :)

Oh for sure - it's called good intentions. Reality bites after a long work day or a wannabe lazy weekend lol. Kudos for taking him off his mom's hands though, not alot of dads do that! I think it's awesome.

I have a 6 month old boy, whenever I get upset, I just think of his first laugh and it makes me smile.
But when he cries....then I pawn him off to Mom.
Amazing thing fatherhood.
My respect for women has gone up to infinity I tell you.

I can totally relate Kompete.

I have 2 kids, the one is almost 2 and other 4 months. It is nuts!!

All day I can't wait to see them, but after 30 mins you kinda wish you were back at work :p (not in a horrible way of course)

Being a parent is really not easy. Especially at that age.

This +1. Being a parent gives you totally new insight into relationships in general.

I once heard someone say to a friend "I hope you sleep like a baby tonight"... I smiled and asked "You haven't had one yet, have you?"
:D

he he he good one :)

I don't have kids personally but I work with little ones. 4 5 and 6 year olds. They are awesome. Can be very hard work and i can imagine how had work being a parent really is.....

From my experience 2/3 year old boys just want a friend to play cars-games on the oc etc etc with. I am around one very often. And he's always like - "are you my friend ?" (handing over a jelly tot)
you mean handing over a bribe :)

I was amazed to see my son 'discovering' lying the other day. I was like in that movie where people had not yet discovered the concept of lying and one guy did and had a ball with everyone else. Our nanny asked him to share a snack which he had in a little container and asked him "do you have any left?" And I could see his little mind racing to formulate a response; which up to that day would always be the truth...however he manage to utter the words 'no' - and I saw his face light up, obviously with the discovery that he did not always have to tell the truth

Love playing with our daughter but she can get a bit much at times.

Can't always hand her over to mommy. Sometimes mommy is busy, other times she does not want mommy.

Patience and remembering that every moment is a once in a lifetime help me enjoy her company more (even when it means hours of Thomas the tank engine that she glances at maybe once every 5 minutes but throws a hissy fit if you change the channel).

My kids fav shows when they were younger were:

Arthur (slightly older)
Curious george
Bear in the big blue house
Blues clues

You should be able to find them online somewhere *cough*
The reason I say they were their favourites is cos we enjoyed them too ;)

That is lol! Yeah, that secret weapon - cuteness... just make sure you resist when you have to do the ugly parent thing lol... tought stuff!

One thing we learned (we had three), teach them the tough stuff when they're young and you won't have to do it all over again when they're bigger and harder to sort out lol. My brother's kids were a nightmare but they didn't put in the time in the early days. That's not to say that all kids who are a handfull are so because of the parents, don't ever compare your kids to others, they are so individual. But yeah, don't cop out when it comes to your input at this early stage - save yourself alot of grey hairs when they are older! It's MUCH easier to do it now :)
