A Benoni woman has been killed, allegedly by her crossbow wielding husband whilst she was performing Salaah.
Details of the incident which occurred on Wednesday - apparently at the time of Maghrib, remain sketchy, but the occurence has been confirmed to Cii Radio by police.
Speaking to Cii Radio, Benoni community leader Moulana Mohammed Rafeek Bellim said Shameema Mohammed Shamoon was allegedly shot by her husband, whilst performing Maghrib Salaah.
“She was on the Musallah, in Sajdah, when her husband came with a bow and arrow[crossbow], and shot her,” he said.
“Immediately after that, he removed the arrow and shot her again twice. She passed away.”
According to the aalim, after the incident, the suspect had instructed his nephew – also living in the same home, to proceed to a corner, where he allegedly intended to shoot him as well.
The youngster escaped with minor injuries.
Approximately an hour after the incident, the suspect reportedly called the mother of the deceased informing her that her daughter “had gone to Jannah”.
Bellim said members of the Muslim community who were first to arrive on the scene at the Benoni home encountered the deceased still in Sajdah.
Local police also arrived soon after.
Gauteng Police’s Warrant Officer Peter Mbonani confirmed that the deceased was shot and killed at close range with a “bow and arrow”. The suspect is currently in custody and Mbonani said the suspect would appear in court next week.
The deceased was taken to the Springs Mortuary, and was buried at the Rynsoord cemetary on Thursday afternoon.
