Verdict

Engine, suspension and dynamics aside, the star of the show when it comes to the Bentayga package has to be its VW-derived underpinnings that continue to prove both impressively versatile and, indeed, evergreen.

While I initially scoffed at the challenge laid out by Bentley’s comms team ahead of my time behind the wheel of the Bentayga Speed to return with a list of vehicles that offer as much as this Crewe creation, on reflection, and accepting there is undeniably a level of luxury and opulence included in a modern Bentley package that sets it apart from its Group stablemates, I’m not sure the most powerful and dynamically capable Bentayga to date has an obvious rival.

I also suspect Bentley has left room for a forthcoming new special edition Bentayga derivative that will have shed some weight…

Wild Bentley Bentayga off-road concept could make production

Brand is looking to “stimulate and gain feedback” for an off-road-focused Bentayga

Bentley could build a more off-road-biased version of its Bentayga SUV, previewed by the extreme new X Concept.

Developed so Bentley can “stimulate and gain feedback” for such a car, it is based on the existing Bentayga Speed, with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 sending 641bhp to all four wheels.

It rides 55mm higher and 40mm wider than the road-focused model and its track has been stretched by 120mm. The wheels are 22in one-piece items from specialist manufacturer Brixton and they are fitted with high-profile all-terrain tyres.

The Bentayga’s air suspension system and active anti-roll bars are retained.

The tweaks give the luxury SUV a maximum wading depth of 550mm (up 50mm) and a ground clearance just shy of 310mm, said Bentley.

The X Concept is also equipped with a roof rack on to which are mounted four spotlights and an electric go-kart.

Bentley unveils rugged Bentayga X Concept

Bentley has revealed the Bentayga X Concept, a beefed-up version of the British luxury marque’s SUV boasting several off-road upgrades.

Bentley Motors whipped off the wraps of the Bentayga X Concept. Designed and engineered as a more off-road-focused model, this rugged Bentayga gains a 55 mm increase in ground clearance, to “just under” 310 mm, with the track widened by 120 mm for improved stability. To accommodate the latter, the wheel arches have been moved outwards, by 40 mm. The Bentayga X Concept is fitted with a set of Brixton 22-inch forged single-piece wheels, shod in off-road rubber. According to the British marque, these upgrades lead to a water-fording depth of “over” 550 mm.

Adding to its adventure-focused proviso, the X Concept also features a roof rack. A quartet of spotlights is fitted to the latter item, which is seen here carrying an electric go kart. Overall, this rises the concept’s overall height to a towering 2 490 mm.

This wild Bentayga X Concept previews a proper off-roading Bentley

Bentley wants a jacked-up Bentayga as a proper production car, but it needs your feedback first

Bentley already sells the Bentayga SUV in multiple forms. As well as the £170k-ish ‘standard’ car, there’s also the Extended Wheelbase for maximum rear-seat space, the Mulliner for maximum luxury and the Speed for maximum erm… speed.

But the Brits reckon there’s space for just one more niche, so it’s time to say hello to the Bentayga X Concept. Launched at the FAT Ice Race in Zell Am See, this ruggedised concept apparently “explores the potential of a more focused off-road Bentley”.

So yes, something like this could actually reach production. In fact, Bentley says this concept has been “developed to stimulate and gain feedback for an enhanced off-road capable Bentayga”. Like it? Better let Bentley know ASAP.

The X Concept is based on a Bentayga Speed too, so at its heart is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sending 641bhp to all four wheels. The ride height has been increased by 55mm for more travel in the air suspension, and that ups the wading depth to over 550mm. The track width has also been upped by 120mm, and there are new 22in forged wheels from Brixton. That’s the LA-based wheel company, not the gentrified area of South London.

Bentley unveils wedding-inspired Bentayga Something Blue Collection

Limited to just 10 examples, and exclusive to the Japanese market, Bentley has lifted the veils off its latest special-edition Bentayga, the Something Blue Collection.

Designed by Bentley’s in-house bespoke division, Mulliner, the Bentayga Something Blue Collection has made its debut. This special-edition Bentayga is limited to only 10 units, each reserved for the Japanese market. The Something Blue Collection’s name is inspired by the wedding rhyme “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue” – four items meant to bring a married couple good fortune when worn on their special day.

Keeping in line with the wedding-inspired theme, the Bentayga Something Blue Collection’s exterior is finished in metallic white paint, which Bentley simply calls ‘Ice’. The brake callipers are distinguished via the same hue and are sited behind 22-inch silver alloy wheels.

Stepping inside, the limited-edition Bentayga’s interior features an array of subtle blue highlights. Blue sapphire accents and a chrome-and-blue bluebell motif can be found on the front passenger’s side. The seats and floor mats feature light blue piping. Contrast stitching is present throughout the cabin.

A Piano Linen finish adorns the instrument panel and centre console. Unique “Something Blue Collection” tread plates, finished in satin and chrome, complete the package.

Bentley Bentayga Speed (2026) Price & Specs

Despite swapping its mighty W12 for a V8, the latest version of the Bentley Bentayga Speed is the most powerful Bentayga yet. And it’s now available in South Africa…

- Bentayga Speed ditches W12 for V8
- Most powerful SUV from Bentley yet
- Speed-badged variant can now drift

The latest version of the Bentley Bentayga Speed has touched down in South Africa, dropping the British brand’s storied 6.0-litre W12 engine in favour of a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8. Despite the reduction in both displacement and cylinder count, the updated Speed debuts as the most powerful Bentley SUV yet.

While the 12-cylinder motor had produced peak outputs of 467 kW and 900 Nm, the latest V8 churns out 478 kW and 850 Nm – up 11 kW but down 50 Nm. The result is a claimed 0-100 kph time of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 290 kph (or 310 kph should you choose the optional carbon-ceramic brakes and 23-inch wheels).

So, what does the V8-powered Bentayga Speed cost in South Africa? Well, thanks to the ever-on-the-ball vehicle-information specialists over at duoporta.com, we can confirm the Speed-badged derivative is priced from R5 765 000, with only the EWB Azure and EWB Mulliner derivatives positioned higher in the 8-strong range.

According to Bentley, the latest Bentayga Speed features “significant advances in dynamic capability”. That’s thanks to an “enhanced” Sport chassis mode (with a 15% increase in suspension damping stiffness) and a new dynamic setting (now with launch control) that “brings maximum driver involvement and the choice between enhanced road-holding or the ability to slide the car on-power”. Yes, the Bentayga Speed can now drift…

Bentley Bentayga Speed: price and specs

Bentley SA has released local pricing for the Bentayga Speed. See pricing below…

The Bentley Bentayga Speed, which we sampled at its international launch event in the US, brings with it more performance and agility. The Speed variant is distinguished from its siblings through the addition of black badging, tinted exterior brightwork and a colour-coded styling kit. Of course, an array of customisation options are available. The Bentayga Speed rides on 22-inch alloy wheels as standard, though customers have the option of specifying 23-inch items.

The Bentayga Speed’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine produces 478 kW, making it one of the most powerful SUVs in SA, and 850 N.m of torque – the latter available between 2 250 and 4 500 r/min in the rev band. An eight-speed automatic transmission transfers power and torque to all four corners. The Bentayga Speed sprints to 100 km/h from a standstill in a claimed 3.4 seconds, before topping out at 290 km/h (or 310 km/h when fitted with the larger wheels and optional carbon-ceramic brakes).

Bentley Bentayga Speed price in SA

The Bentley Bentayga Speed is priced from R5 765 000, which places it among the most expensive SUVs in SA. Included with the price are a three-year/unlimited km warranty and a maintenance plan spanning the same duration or 100 000 km. Customers have the option of upgrading to a five-year maintenance plan at additional cost.

Bentley Bentayga Artenara special edition unveiled

Bentley has whipped the wraps off a new special-edition Bentayga, the Bentayga Artenara Edition.

Bentley has unveiled a new special-edition Bentayga. Dubbed ‘Artenara Edition’, this derivative is named for the highest village in Gran Canaria, which sits 1 200 metres above sea level. Gran Canaria is also the home of the Roque Bentayga peak – the latter from where the British luxury automaker’s SUV got its name.

The Bentayga Artenara Edition will be available with eight exterior paint finishes – Beluga, Granite, Pale Brodgar, Glacier White, Sequin Blue, Dark Sapphire, Verdant, and Havana – each complemented by a bespoke tri-colour interior scheme. The special edition features a variety of model-specific touches, including a “double diamond” Mulliner front grille, body-coloured accents, and 22-inch Mulliner alloy wheels. Customers have the option of specifying 23-inch Super Lux items at additional cost. Blackline spec is also available as an option.

Stepping inside, the passenger’s side facia features a motif of the topography of the Roque Bentayga peak, replete with its coordinates. The illuminated door sills also feature ‘Artenara Edition’ branding.
