Bret Weinstein is a controversial evolutionary biologist. He suggested that Fauci played a role in promoting gain-of-function research, which could be linked to the emergence of the COVID-19 virus. The same gain-of-function research was downstream of a weapons program. Gain-of-function research involves altering viruses to enhance their lethality and to study their potential effects on humans, and he links it to the Wuhan Institute, where some folks say the virus accidentally leaked from.

He also criticises Fauci and others for the vaccine mandate (he does not consider it a vaccine, but a gene) and says that e.g. ivermectin etc., would have sufficed as treatment if given early and in the right dose.

He does not offer a motive for the powers that be promoting the vaccine over alternative, off-patent treatment. I assume if anything, it would be financial.
