Best ADSL for an "abusive" user

I'm a bit lazy to search through all these threads and to go out and compare prices myself. I want to switch over from iBurst to ADSL, I'll be using my connection for the following:

* some light browsing
* alot of youtubing
* alot of torrents/p2p
* some gaming (guildwars)

I'm looking for an unshaped and uncapped account preferably 512kbps (but 384 will be okay..I guess:(), any help/ideas?
 
Why would you want to leave IBurst?

They're giving away 500mb. :p

Just have a look at all the ad banners on this site for a start.

IS ADSL should be able to handle you. They even have fibre for lower latencies :D
 
If u see a company Advertising 512K uncapped IS-ADSL . Just make sure its true uncapped. Cause most of them offer "Uncapped" but they are actually Limited to 15gig or 30gig threshold. (384K, 5gig per 10days) (512K, 10gig per 10days)

Most of them are prices at around R1350+- (but do make sure of the capping or Usage system)

I see u want to get 384K or 512K.

So if your going the 384K or 512K route. Your costs might look somthing like this :

Telkom Phone line rental : R110
Telkom ADSL 384K line rental : R152
Telkom ADSL 512K line rental : R324

Not sure if you get your data from international sources or Locally.
but have a look at www.openweb.co.za (2gig international+28gig local = R159)

So your bill might look like this :

R110(Telkom line) + R324 (512K ADSL line) + Uncapped 512K ISP = R1803 (might have threshold too)

or

R110(Telkom line) + R152 ( 384K ADSL line) + 2 x OPenweb account (2gig int +28 gig local each) = R580 *then u have 4gig international with around 50odd gigs local*

Hehehe, been listening to Telkom - was that do, do, do movies but don't, don't, don't use bandwidth to do so. huh?

By the time I cancel my month to month with iBurst and fight their accounting department and try and stop further debit orders it'll be November already, and I'll have received the 500mb (which should take me an hour or so to kill) and removed their spyware....

I'm a bit worried about the battle that lies ahead

Thanks for the info, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to local, what am I going to use that 50gb for? are local torrents worth it, I mean when it comes to rarities and such?
 
Sum1 was offering Telkom 10Gig international for R450 ish? anyone remember who? I see this gives access to giganews too.
 
Yes bothapn. IS ADSL is true uncapped. If u take it direct from them.
512K uncapped Costs R1579 per month, with a R1710 Setup fee and u must take the 24months contract. Those are true uncapped and u can do around 200-300gig international or local.

But there are ISP's reselling "Uncapped" but most of them actually have those 15gig and 30gig thresholds. *i'm just cautioning Ivan on that*

R1710 for clicking on the "next" button a few times with Windows' "new Connection wizard"...?!

Thanks Napalm, I'll take that into consideration. According to Openweb if I blow my 10 day threshold they half the speed, if blow the monthly threshold they half the speed. Does that mean 30gb in ten days will get me a 128kbps connection?

Why wait.......cancel your iburst right now and then keep an eye on your bank account on a daily basis.

Just make sure from your side your payments are up to date then block or reverse any debit orders that those iburst account leaches try the steal from you.

They've built up such a bad reputation that they will probably die out in the near future.

-there is no real uncapped service in RSA yet, all such products has a drawback or a limit in place.

what exactly is this 30G local cap good for - pain and suffering with ISnews "server" ?

suppose there is this local torrent scene though....

...downloading anything @ 3.5Mbps (unfortunately rsa max) and not just i'm lucky it was cached - from a real news server 24.7 and you will hardly look back at wtf was this ISnews "server" business

though in our case Actually utilizing your line means abuse and must suffer some sort of softcapping or limitation.

"please buy our uncapped - but don't use it"
