I have better one .. MS Word :) type in there and copy-paste.
Anycase, I use Telkom ISP (now). Will be moving to MegaLan as soon as their service becomes available.
* Telkom
* No extras
* Can't use my Telkom email account - don't really care, got yahoo :)
* Does seem to allow extra accounts after you hit the cap, well that is what the emails they send me said when I was capped.

That should help ;]

Tanx I typed that half past twelve in the morning (couldn’t see any more lol). I think I corrected most of my bad spelling![8D]

Well, in my opinion, there is only one ADSL ISP ( unfortunately ) ... and that is telskum. The rest are just resellers of the telskum product. They have no way of offering their own packages and all ADSL users use the same network ... the telksum one. This is giving telskum the monopoly in internet access - very anti-competive eh?

Yes, Telkom has 100% control of ADSL.

If Telkom owns ADSL and other ISP's merely sub-lease from Telkom...
what is the sense in paying more for another ISP?
Maybe somebody can clear this one up for me?

ps. I am not on ADSL yet but guess it's just a matter of time.
My current ISP is not Telkom.[:D]

Mux: Before I got my ADSL I was with Worldonline, so I had the choice of either getting my ADSL through them or simply (?) joining Telkom. I could not justify spending the extra R100 that WOL charges for the same service Telkom offers. So I went with Telkom - I thought it would be less complicated having the "whole" ADSL package through them. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks VQuest.
Yip, I am with Tiscali (aka Worldonline, ICON [:D]). I have been with them such a long time and up to now had very few problems.
Why are the ISP's not taking the issue up as well? Surely it will impact them over time as people move away? It makes no sense in spending the extra R100 per month unless somebody from Tiscali, M-Web or any other ISP can respond to this explaining what value they can add.
Seems just weid how we actually go backwards in progress as Telkom increases in stranglehold as appose to easing up?[xx(]

I had the satellite service through WOL for 3 years and I had nothing but problems with them, so count your blessings. So for me, leaving them was a welcomed break.

As far as I know, the different ISP's have taken up the issues with Telkom, but I don't think they are getting very far. I believe WOL was the first to come out and offer a second account to help those who go over their cap - they call it a plugin. I don't agree with having to purchase a second account because that means we're being even more ripped off by Mr Monopoly. Why should we fork out another R200-odd to have what we should be getting in the first place?

The same reason Internet Solutions decided not to go for ADSL.

Telkom wanted the ISP's to pay for the bandwith usage from their central ADSL site (afiak where the various DSLAM goes to) to the authentication servers of the ISP's.

Well needless to say TelkomInternet does not need to pay for this since their authentication server sits right in this Telkom site ;).

How will you compete on price alone then ???.

well then, maybe this is an issue that this site can take up too. The last thing we need is for telskum to end up having the monopoly on internet access ... although to a large degree they already do, it's called SAIX :/

Is there some board we can voice our complaints about this?

Yup - the deregulation forum...
