Hi

I would like to know what the best ADSL modem is one can buy. It needs to be Ethernet (PPPoE) so that it can be plugged into a Linksys Wireless Router.

Thanks in advance.

dlink dsl-300T ( which is what i use and is available from pinnacle mirco )
switch this one into bridge mode and off you go......

I belive the netgear ones are pretty good as well, but i have no experience with them.

Hi Overmind,

I would suggest the Billion 711C2 modem/router. It is quite unique because it has both a USB and Ethernet port. This means that you won't have to change your modem when your requirements/setup change. You can get it @ Jump.co.za for R742.00 incl.

Hi Nickste,

We've been using the 7100G intensively in our SOHO (6 people) for the past three months and its incredibly stable. Half the peeps are connecting wirelessly and the other with Ethernet and all has been going well.

The best one obviously depends on what you intend to use it for. I see people are using these routers for gaming, but as far as gaming goes, I tryly and honestly do not know. I'm not really a gaming enthusiast. LOL.

Price on jump looks ok. (thanks for the headsup, it's quite a nice site)

Don't know Linksys.

Best Modem?

The Netgear DG834/DG834G/DG834GT (running the latest firmwares of course - 1.10.10 or 2.10.09) are brilliant routers. When 2.10.10 is released, this router will kick ASS !!!. (The SNMP isnt working properly yet in the Beta's)

If you have a LinkSys router you might just as well have bought the LinkSys WAG54G Gateway which is almost the same price and has the modem built in.

I am resurrecting this thread from the grave  it must be known what the best adsl modems of the current day are! :D

go!
