As the title suggests, I'd like some opinions on the best all-round 10mb uncapped package, with adsl line rental included. moving on from 2mb telkom uncapped. Looking to spend around R900 tops. So far I've looked at Afrihost, OpenWeb, Webafrica, and cybersmart. Not that an experienced of a user so some insight would be great

PS: I watch a lot of youtube, torrent a fair bit, and play an MMO occasionally (ESO)

Look at Webafrica or Crystal Web. I personally have accounts with Webafrica, Vox, Telkom and Crystal Web. Crystal web works best out of all of them.

Afrihost - Tend to have network issues a couple times a year and last for about 3 months and gradually gets worse till they do something about it.

Openweb - Throttled to death between 8am - 5pm.

Cybersmart - Shaped/Throttled between 7am - midnight. Streaming terrible, torrents terrible.

Our 10Mbps uncapped has a download threshold of approximately 250GB over a 30 day rolling window, and costs R899 per month for an all-inclusive package.

Online video streamed traffic is on the top of the priority list for our network but P2P traffic (such as Torrents) receive the lowest priority, so performance in this regard cannot be guaranteed. EDIT: Gaming traffic receives the highest priority on our network.

I strongly strongly advice you to stay away from Openweb. Don't be fooled by the pricing on their site. They are the crapiest ISP around here. Go ahead and consider the rest but please keep your money away from Opencrap

Thanks guys. Next question, a new router - R1200 tops, suggestions? should be noted i primarily use wifi. want to get rid of the telkom d-link modem

based on the smiley, is that sarcasm?lol They seem to get some bad rep, friend said they completely re-did their firmware. I know nothing about router technology so I'm in the dark. I see afrihost sells a netgear one and webafrica the Zyxel ones

Sorry to intrude, but I am also looking for a good ISP in the Waterkloof/Elarduspark area in Pretoria. I have seen a lot of positives about Axxess, but I am still a bit sceptical. I know that they offer a R495 per month 10mb uncapped ADSL (line rental excluded) https://www.axxess.co.za/uncapped.

Any suggestions?

I'mma throw Afrihost in here - Regularly pull over 800gb through my business line ( But family has a home uncapped line, and they get over 500gb without hassle )

I'd stay away from MWEB though, in honesty. I used to be with them, and they were -AWESOME-, but when this FUP crap started up with their throttling, I was on the first ship out of there. Why bother calling something "uncapped" when you've got to monitor your usage so that you don't go over some arbitrary limit?

If you're going to be doing under 120gb/month, they're probably your best bet as far as quality of line goes, but if you spike to 250gb in one 30 day period, you'll be throttled down to the point where you can't even get a youtube video going.

Well Axxess are on the same network and share the same capacity as Afrihost - So you will end up having issues.

Rather stick to IS ISPs, Such as Webafrica and Crystal Web - http://crystalweb.co.za/free-trial.php offer a free trial account too.

With Crystal Web, do you know what their download threshold is per month with the 10mbps line as well as when shaping would take place? I am primarily going to use this line for gaming and downloading torrents

I'm on a Uncapped premium account - I just schedule my downloads between 12am and 8am - then during the day I browse, stream, game etc.

I believe they have a uncapped basic account too whereby shaping is based on a star rating, so if you schedule your downloads between 12am - 6am - you should be unaffected by shaping during the day.

They do not have thresholds from what I know.

Some feedback.

I now have a WebAfrica 10mb account. Selected transfer line, but need to go to telkom to close my account there etc, what exactly do I say to them? Account is working great so far (obviously only at the speed that the current line is). Also ordered one of the Zyxel modems

Do I close the data account and tell them i want to transfer the line to another ISP or do I cancel everything?

Never cancel the line. It will need to be reinstalled if you do. Only cancel your data account...

Data account cancelled. Managed to do it over the phone lol. now I wait for them to transfer. Webafrica website says up to 3 weeks:(

Some more feedback

Been having issues with my line(well I have well before I changed ISPs, I now believe I have the means to do something about it. Webafrica support has been top notch. They monitored my line, and apparently it dropped over 100 times today alone. They've submitted a fault request and said its most likely an issue with my line and not my router etc, and that if its an exchange ssue they will sort it out, or send a technican. My question is, what exactly IS a line fault? Seondly, Ive submitted a fault request before or whatever they call it and they said nothing was wrong. A bit confused. what exactly is the course of action that they take? if any. Thanks

Got my issues resolved thankfully. Telkom said something about a new system and having to revert to an old system. Shortly puty line is syncing correctly now. Now just waiting for line to be transferred. 5 star service from webafrica
