best and cheapest adsl available

what is the best adsl you get? Am nearly done with a contract with telkom and now looking for internet options and so. Thanks
 
How reliable must your internet be? And what is your intention? Gaming; torrents; browsing; etc

Personally I'm sticking with Telkom as I'm finding them the most reliable for my needs (remote access for work & gaming) but your needs could be different.
 
with "best and cheapest" im going to assume you have a 384k line.
For capped try http://www.trltech.co.za
For uncapped maybe mweb/openweb, but it will be shaped if you buy the cheap uncapped products.

If you really want to go to the bottom of the line like I did, go to http://www.cybersmart.co.za They give you 15gig for R300 BUT they take over your line rental. It's how you download your content that determines which type of account you buy.
 
You can also get quite far with the IS local only accounts from Axxess: http://www.axxess.co.za/internet.php?account=localplus
If your line is very stable and your router doesn't drop the connection, then you get to keep the international connectivity :D

Unfortunately Axxess will be adjusting their prices of those local only accounts within 1 hour :(

OpenWeb does offer the same kind of IS local only packages.

In the end, you'll always need an ISP account that will provide you with international cap just in case you lose the international connectivity on the local only accounts - which is what I use my free 1GB Afrihost account for.

I'm also very impressed with Mweb Uncapped (Shaped) accounts, but don't expect to get decent torrent speeds.
 
The words 'best' and 'cheapest' can not work together.

You either pay for the best, or you order the cheapest and get the worst.

How do you get Mweb to include the line rental in their package if you are applying for an ADSL line directly from Telkom?
 
BTWeb or PCF Live are cheapest for unshaped data - R200 for 20gb, R300 for 30gb etc. Any company that uses brandedadsl support is cheapest. No redundancy thou.

+1 (Although it is really annoying when the microwave trips every plug in the house :( Living in an old house build 100-odd years ago is a mission for internet access, and getting wireless set up is an extreme mission)

I've been with Cybersmart, never had problems with them on 4mb line.
I've been with Mweb, never had problems with them on 384k and 4096k
I've been with Openweb for local on 4mb, got a great deal of international data out of it.
I've been with WebAfrica for both local and international (Still use one account as my backup), great performance (unless SEACOM has dropped)
 
Do not want to go with any contract again preferably. Also not with telkom they are way too expensive and take too long to install adsl. Which is best then? Already got a modem. Thanks

Most IPS's (NOT TELKOM) don't make you sign contracts on home ADSL nowdays. It's on a month-to-month basis and you must just notify them a month in advance when you want to cancel. Simple as that.
 
Get the line from Cybersmart w/ the 1 gig free as a base line. Thats cheaper than line rental from telkom. Then just buy whatever strikes your fancy for that month for gigs.

I'd start the gigs with the Altech thing if I were in your shoes....their gigs look like good value for money.

Agreed. That's what I did for 4MB line except I for 3Gigs free which was enough for the family and then I purchased another account for myself and used a PPPoE connection on my PC.
