Best and worst hard drive makes

I wish they go use the Western Digital Green and Red drives but disable spin-down using wdidle tool, would be very useful data point.
 
As a home user I've had a better experience with Seagate than Western Digital. The Hitachi Drives I have are great as well, but they have the potential to run really hot if you don't attach some sort of hard drive cooler to them. I wonder how Samsung drives would fare in a corporate environment.
 
If they had the Money ($$$$), then they should rather go for SSDs.
Much MUCH better. We do. Saves us all the time, and the performance is just amazing, Much less heat and power.
In the long run, they're the best.
 
This article holds some truth, I had a 1.5 TB seagate crash on me and lost 3 months of data :(

Opened it up and saw it's been scratched beyond repair, avoid those darn hard drives at all cost :mad:
 
Also got rid of all my 1.5Tb's recently - very informative article though.

Using Western digital Green tho - will have to wait and see
 
Have not seen Hitachi drives in a while. Can you still get them in SA (besides 2.5" versions) ?

Toshiba 3.5" HDDs are Hitachi drives. Hitachi's 3.5" division was bought over by Toshiba.

Also, Google has been using mainly Hitachi drives for a long time. So this isn't really new.

If you buy Samsung, you buy Seagate.
 
Had a 2TB seagate on the verge of failure, luckily HD sentinel warned and I put all my data on a new 3TB, problem is most of my drives are seagate :(
 
So sad this article on mybb is a copy paste from the original article except for the very 1st paragraph.

That said, very happy thus far with my 4TB Wester Digital Red drives, and the 3TB ones I sold worked well for a year.
 
Personally I've found the service from the Seagate agents in South Africa to be really poor. I returned a drive which had 1 week left on its warranty period and they said they can't swap it out because it takes two weeks to send it overseas for testing. :wtf:

Uh... So that means all 3 of my internal drives are Seagate. The oldest one is 5 years and still going strong. :)

Edit: I think my Samsung drive may have been made before 2011 when Seagate took them over.

Had another Seagate crash on me two weeks ago. Liked them for the most part but I don't think I'll be getting one again... ever.

Do you even know what business they are in? And what business model they use? Reading the first paragraph of the article will help.

They sell cheap storage. You can't do that with SSDs. They would then be selling expensive storage.

Interesting stats nonetheless though.

My oldest Samsung also about 5 years old, is still going strong and was made by Samsung. A year ago i bought a Samsung made by Seagate, it failed within about 2 months and was replaced with a Seagate.
