Hi there!
Shopping around for a birthday present for my brother. I just cant seem to find a good android tablet at the moment. The Motorola Xoom is a bit old now and I'm not really a big fan of the Galaxy tablets. I'm looking for a large one so that rules out the HTC flyer. Any suggestions?

Also, do they stock tablets at Game/Makro or Incredible Connection? Or is it just the vodacom, cell c etc that stock them?

If money was not issue, Asus EEE Transformer with the dock. Have not used it but it seems like a clear winner to me.

Elimentals should give you an unbiased opinion.

Depends what your brother is like, if he is young and into games I would rather say go iPad, I would avoid the Toshiba Thrive and Acer iconia pads, because of size, weight and very short battery life, you better off buying a netbook than those 2.

If he wants a netbook/tablet with no 3G go ASUS Eee Pad is the best but on Eee Pad I would warn you Prime is set to be rolling out in December. ASUS Eee Pad's only real limitation is the lack of 3G but that is also the reason why it gets all the updates before the rest, because it does not need to wait for Service Providers approval. I have no issues using my phone as a hotspot.

If he wants to tinker (the rooting type) then the Samsung 10.1 3G should be fine, but only if you can get 3.2 on it. For me 3.1 was better than 3.0 but still sucked esp for end user POV. Both Samsung and ASUS tablets are in line for ICS but with Samsung's track record expect it only in April if not later.

Personally I am looking at the Xoom 2 Media Edition with built in IR so that I can use it with my media center in the lounge. Can control TV/DSTV/HiFi and PVR with one device as well as surf the web during ad-breaks.

The Xoom 2 and ASUS Eee Prime will probably only hit SA stores in Jan/Feb unless you import it personally. Simply put, for Android in SA now is the worse time to get a tablet because of all the Xmas releases hitting the US.
