Best anti-virus?

Getting a new computer today and just wondering what anti-virus I should put on it... I've been using Fsecure for the past three years simply because I can get it for free, but am wondering whether there isn't something better out there now.

Which is the best antivirus out there? I'm looking for a product that protects my computer well (obviously) but that doesn't use up 90% of my system resources running. It would of course be nice to have an antivirus that was free, but I dont want to use something that's free and then have my computer fall victim to every second virus.

[ I'm using Vista 64bit if it makes any difference ]
 
I have complete faith in Grisoft AVG 'cos it always catches what the others couldn't (Symankrapp Norton-Is-A-Virus et al) - never tried Eset Nod32 though.

They're all basically the same, the better ones you pay money for - some just take more resources eg Norton. So go into shop, close your eyes, pick out a box and voila, there is the No 1 virus killer.
 
Mcaffee ! Uses practically no resources, updates are very small, doesnt flag falsely like most av's
 
Eset updates are typically 400-500Kb if you update regularly. I haven't had any "false-positive" experience yet and i've been using it for atleast 3 years (since Nod32 v2.7 i think) if not more. Usually picks up viruses quick.

McAfee on the other hand, is installed on all campus PC's and everyday after campus, I put my flash disks in my PC for Eset to clean them :D It's like flushing the viruses down the toilet.
 
Also looking @ moving away from Norton, very resource intensive on the Laptop and have served well with a couple of Subscription Upgrades etc..
Never have any problems with it.

McAfee offered by MWEB installed on desktop :
Basic antivirus-scan, firewall, siteadvisor can be managed from MWEB acount.
easy online install.
Also haven't had any problems on the desktop pc

Considering it also for the Laptop and removing the Resource Intensive, but good according to me Norton Internet Security.
 
Use Avast Home myself, it's free and seems to do the job. Very easy to update and they're small if you update regularly.
