If your phone is rooted then use Droidwall to control what apps have access to your data connection and what apps use WiFi. Really great app and its free.

Besides that, nope. If you want something that works offline you'll need to buy/pirate it.
Doesnt seem to work on the Desire HD. It just hangs.
Didn't you purchase the full Route 66 navigation? Why need Google navigation?
Nope - it Route 66 just started working after I was trying to get the above to workAlthough I'd still prefer Google Navigation, route66 has hardly any points of interest on it.
You can also download MapQuest for free....it's available in the Android Market.
I know Route 66's POI is really crap, but the navigation itself is very good.
Couple of bugs on this one.
GPS lock is fast, but it's always placing me in the next road while driving or a good few meters adjacent to it.
When taking turns, it really gets d****y.
Might just be a bug, but I don't think navigation settings are functional in RSA.
Another bug is that the "Open data" settings keeps on popping up, even after you've checked the button for it not to anymore.
Really hope they work on this some more - I like the feel of it and it searches and gives results for addresses quite fast.

Just download the renamed and tagged version, and install. That's the easiest way.
It will show up as a separate app to the official Google Maps.
