I am looking for a program/app that will help me track my budget.

Currently what I have is an Excel spreadsheet for planning and 22seven for tracking. I am hoping that there is an app out there that is a little more robust.

I realise that Excel is about as robust as I make it but before I invest too much time into that, I wanted to test the water to see what is out there in the market already.

What do you use?

Currently not budgeting because I'm lazy (:o) & not really cash constrained (:)). Should probably fix that...

Have a copy of YNAB which seems nice.

I know some people swear by MS Money.

Edit: Just took a quick look at my card activity...budgeting will be a biatch...cause all Amazon purchases just say amazon. That could be anything from toothpaste to a computer game. :/

It's better to use a mobile app because when you're in store, you can quickly add your purchase at the till, rather than go home, check the receipt and then log it into a desktop application.

I have tried so many apps. I currently used HomeBudget. Let's you set budgets. Keep saving accounts and all the other things. I never check my bank balance, only my budget app.

Bra.

Those are the most pathetic fcking support you can ever imagine I'll post the emails here.

There system is constantly fked and some features doesn't work ie connecting to easyequities.co.za bombs out their website.

I've been in contact with their DB administrator. God that incompetence human knows less about databases than I do.

It's just a constant struggle with them.

They want to TeamViewer into your private account if you have problems like wtf?

It's more hassle to get your money back so I'm now just letting it lapse.

A fcking disgraceful business.

Ok dan,

I'm not using them for my personal stuff, also used to be a MS Money fan, but I'm using Sage One Accounting, and that work well!

I were under the impression this private use one was free...

The free version doesn't do bank imports you need to do it yourself.

(note they say it does, but it doesn't their system is broken.)

So end up taking out the subscription, well now I'm a paying customer and it's still fcked.

50 unanswered emails still.

I use MS Money still but would live to switch over to something smart phone based. Will be a big exercise though so holding off on it for now. My biggest issue is my and the wife do a combined budget so I need something that allows logging in from multiple devices and also supports multiple bank accounts.

What about 22Seven isn't "robust" enough for you?

I find this bizarre notion that people expect it to somehow hold their hand and tell them not to spend their money. Not meaning you specifically but a few people I've spoken to about 22Seven have this idea about it. Seems to me they just have no concept of budgeting and working with money so there is no real help for them.

22seven is very passive though. I prefer You Need A Budget for my monthly budgeting and use 22seven to track my investments, net worth etc.

On one hand I agree with you. At the same time the fact that it imports all transactions and keeps track of them automatically make it a real win because that's where most people will fail themselves in the tracking what they are doing department.

I still keep my actual budget in Google Docs and check it against 22Seven.

This kind of sums it up for me. I just prefer to track my expenses at the point of sale. This way I can actively manage my monthly expenses and it makes me think about what I'm buying and why I'm buying it. I just find 22seven a bit too passive hence I like to track my investments with it. To each his own though.
