best cctv diy kit

I am very impressed with Hikvision. Zoom isnt bad at all.
2x, 3x?

Only non Ubiquiti camera I've used was a PTZ 30x zoom and I've been missing that kind of stuff eversince.

I have a basic HIKVision setup at home which I setup myself and plan on expanding at a later stage.

I have 2 5MP bullet cameras, a 16 channel NVR with 6TB surveillance HDD with UV coated shielded CAT5e cabling throughout. I reset all passwords on the NVR and cameras and don't make use of HIKConnect, to avoid security issues as far as possible. I am busy getting motion/intrusion/line detection setup and working but everything has worked flawlessly so far.

Can you maybe show how the zoom is on one of those cameras... I want to buy HiKvision, but would like to test it first.

Let me see what I can do, I have access setup via my iPhone and an iPad but also access via my work laptop and need to setup the monitor in our garage.

This is off my iPhone using iVMS-4500 for my one camera covering our garage entrance, I am not sure what the digital zoom percentage is though...

Ubiquiti is rubbish , well about 4 years ago.I originally installed 2 x ubiquit cameras and was disappointed.Thats when i did some further investigating which lead me to install hikvision cameras and nvr.

I didn't buy it as a kit, I had a look around at what HIKVision had available and found a local supplier through a work colleague, ended up with this for now...

1 x HIKVision DS-7616NI-K2/16P NVR
2 x HIKVision SE-DS-2CD2055FWD-I Cameras (4mm fixed length)
1 x WD 4TB 3.5" SATA3 6.0Gbps Surveillance HDD - Purple (I thought it was 6TB)
2 x Linkbasic 100M Shielded UV Protected Cat5e Cable
50 x Linkbasic RJ45 Cat5e UTP Modular Plug
50 x Linkbasic Black Boots RJ45

I used a friends RJ45 connector kit to make up my own ethernet cables and spent countless hours on ladders and in our roof running everything and then countless more setting everything up and teaching myself port forwarding, dynamic DNS, setting up apps, etc, etc. This is the basic setup for now as I plan on adding more cameras around the house...

Did the same as you.

note: normally the "diy kits" are cheap chinese junk,Be aware

Uhm... no... the security is on point so I am not getting where you are coming from regarding security.

I personally run Hikvision and it is not re-branded because, if you use the IVM application that comes with the camera you will see that it registers the camera at Hikvision themselves in China.

The security on the camera is rather based on your network at home... not the camera itself.

I don't use an NVR, they are plugged straight into my POE switch.
Both Hikvision and Dahua have major backdoors in their hardware, firmware encoded admin credentials for "remote support purposes" according to each manufacturer.

They are now banned in US Government installs due to this and other issues around Chinese manufactured hardware calling home: https://ipvm.com/reports/ban-law

If you put a Hikvision or Dahua hardware device on a network , it can and will be hacked , regardless of network security protocols implemented.

Please read my statement again: Hik doesn't rebrand cameras, cheap Chinese brands are actually Hik rebrands or OEMs of Hik themselves: https://ipvm.com/reports/hik-oems-dir

If you don't come right with them, PCLink Computers also do majority of the HikVision + carious camera stock with current prices Incl VAR. Worked very well for me.

Thanks Neuk, will check them out now.
It shouldn't be an issue...

Thanks Mista, yea PC link I saw on google a few times, wasn't sure if they are legit, suppose that uncertainty has been cleared now so will check them.

Send me details, then I can compare with the above, I just want cheap, I don't care for support and I dont care for service as long as the parts arrive then I can take care of the rest :)
I can get it for you for cheap.
And the guy will do the installations for you as well.
