Hi guys,

I am buying a HAF with a Aquagate Max cooling system. Should I keep that installed or should I remove it and just stay with a normal CPU Cooler (like my Gemini II?)

I Don't OC that much. I like the idea of WC but is it worth all the extra money? And what if there's a leak :-)

How often do I replace the liquad and so on? Sorry but my international is finished and I would like to know this.

Thanks guys

I run the coolermaster V8, combined with a lapped CPU, I went from avg of 55C on my Q6600 @2.4ghz to an avg of 30C @3.0ghz OC. Cooler set me back about R800. I rarely hit 50C anymore, only if my PC room is hot (no aircon).

Yea but I can sell it for R1300 and sell my Gemini for R300 then I can buy a V8 or True and have R800 extra to spend :-)

But not sure if WC is a better option??

If you are gonna clock the hell out of your CPU then sure is, but otherwise, air cooling is simpler, easier to maintain. And the V8 looks just like a V8 Block! But it is freakin huge, you gotta make sure your mobo got some good support! (I think the thing weighs about 800g - was worried that it would warp my board, but its running just fine)

Maintain?? How does the WC stuff work? Liquad and so on?

Well in all honesty if your not overclocking i see no reason why you need water cooling.

There is not a lot of maintenance in regards to water cooling, i use anti freeze in my water setup and i don't think i will have to maintain it.

It should not leak unless you have done a piss poor job of hooking it up.

yea that part I'm a bit afraid of :-( (hooking it up) coz I've never had WC...

Prog is when I OC my system keeps freezes...

I have a GA-X48-DQ6... Think I'm just a bit rusty on the OC part...

But I can set my CPU multiplier (only to 7 lol)
and I can change the range from around 300 - 650 if I'm right (it's around 400 now)

Std. 6300 cpu = 1.8ghz. mine is around 2.8 now and working fine. Prog is when I change my mem settings. it has a selection option list.

400
333
266
200

I believe there's a way to work out the stuff... I just have to read up on it, lol..

have to say it looks like a job but sht... It really kicks the normal cooler @ss when it comes to looks :-) Didn't think it will look that cool :-D

got to agree, it does look sweet!! as for your memory when you OC, just try keep it within spec, I try not OC my memory, thats where you see more crashes! Even if it works out short of the specified speed, not so much of an issue, you wont notice it.

yea but I'm running 1066 OCZ Reapers. They aren't being OC at all. I keep them at 1066 but running at 266mhz... if that makes sense... Or I can set them to 333 mhz but then I can't OC the cpu that much...

on my q6600 to get 3.0ghz I set to 333. Then my ram timings must be set to 5-5-5-15 i think, lets me run at 1066, if I run any higher on the CPU, i have to clock the ram slower, it wont go past 1066.

I did a run @3.4ghz the other day, had to run my ram at about 950mhz. But I after benching and looking at actual gains throughout, was pointless to stress my CPU that much for so little. I'm happy with the 3.0ghz. My system gets about 13K on 3Dmark Vantage. Have not yet seen it stutter or lag on any game and I run maxed out graphics with my GTX280 @ 1920X1080.

I'll play a bit tonight... If I can get my CPU to overheat I'll keep the WC, lol...

running them at a lower strap puts more strain on your northbridge, that's the tricky part coz then you have to increase nb volts and overheating nb = bluescreens and all sorts of funny things hehe. on the other hand, if you run your ram a bit slower than spec then you can tighten the timings which will make up for the drop in mem clock. higher clocks doesnt necessarily mean a faster system, you always have to do trial and error until you find a sweet spot which is most importantly stable and produces the least heat.

mmmm.. I think I understand around 75% of that :-)

My prob is I'm not changing voltage :-) I didn't know if you clock the ram down it gives me strain on NB (if I understand correct)

So I should try and put the RAM on either 266/333 to boost my CPU's clock and set the timing manually in the bios for the ram.

for me to run 3.4ghz, I had to up my NB 0.1v and My CPU to 1.45v, my ram requires +0.2v stock to reach 1066. The heatsink on my NB was cooking hot, thats part of why I went back to 3.0ghz. Would need to fit a small fan on the NB sink - think its a good Idea. And it takes days to get to a good stable clock.... I'd rather just play games! The Jump from 3.0 to 3.4ghz is massive when it comes to voltages and heat. My 3.0ghz clock runs on stock voltages.

Yea I'll rather just buy a faster CPU :-)

But thanks for the input guys :-D
