I use Total copy and it serves all my copying needs.

Most of my friends use tera copy though and keep trying to get me to try it. I've also seen kill copy recommended a few times as well.

Is there any reason you use a particular program over another?

What is the "best" one to use?
 
I use the copy that comes with Windows. Didn't like Teracopy, it had some shortcomings.
 
I like KillCopy. Bit more options than window's copy. Allows for pause and speed control, as well as resume. Since it also supports queues and various other optimisations, you can streamline your copy process as well (only 1 copy from a drive at a time = less thrashing).

Also supports resuming copies after a crash, and lets your copy shutdown the pc when it's done.

Very useful when I'm moving a bunch of stuff between my laptop and desktop. Lets it run and shut down when it's done, then just grab it the next morning.

Killcopy replaced my Total Copy, I had a few crashes with total-copy, though I can't recall specifics. Switched to Killcopy and it works great.

Some skins also show a nice little graph for copy speed.

Slight increase, but you can get marked increases under other some conditions. I mainly use it for convenience.

When copying a huge file on the same harddrive, increasing the buffer to say 32MB decreases copy time quite a lot. Head doesn't have to keep jumping around.

Parallel read/write helps a lot between two drives or when copy to/from a network also helps.

I absolutely DETEST windows copy. For one fact more than any other. If you are copying a bunch of files and one has an error, you can't just skip the file and copy the rest like with total copy.

Also when copying to a drive that's almost full windows just gives an error when there's no free space left, while total copy lets my pause the copy and free up some space.
 
Been using Teracopy for a while now, 99% stable. Much better for copying at LANs. KillCopy seems to have the most options. But performance wise killcopy, teracopy, etc are all pretty much the same.

I used teracopy for a long time. Since installing Windows 7 on my laptop it has been giving a lot of copy errors with different file types, even just normal exe's in a zip folder. I prefer killcopy, just as Pyro, it's the least messed around with and it works well. ;)

I'm on Win 7, and no errors so far copying all types of files. Weird.

The only reason you're using Teracopy is because it has your name in it :p

I used to use that but switched. Got some weird errors with it.
