Hi All,

I am looking into various 3G data bundles as a broadband alternative as the complex (Bellville, Cape Town) I am living does not have any Telkom lines, so ADSL is not an option :-( If any knows which of the MNO's currently has the best offer running with a minimum of 5GB peak data per month on contract, will be much appreciated.

Recommendations on 3G Routers which I can intergrate into my current LAN setup will also be great.

Looking forward to your expert opinions.

Thanks All

Yup, if you have 8ta coverage, then go with them. They have the lowest price per MB when you go for the higher cap packages. I think it's at 13c p/MB. This is from the 2GB package onward. I'm not sure if it is OOB too, but stick with prepaid if you can.

Also look into CELL C GIGANITE before signing on the dotted line or paying the once-off fee involved do yourself a favor and get yourself a SIM CARD, RICA IT. Load some data, do some speedtest results and test the service first hand before you sign your life away to commitment or flushing your hard earned once-off payment(money) goodbye.

Check coverage etc.

My advice would be get redundancy sometimes they work, other times they refuse to work.

Regarding Router TP-Link MBR 3420 - just make sure your dongle can accept but if budget isn't a problem then get yourself a DEVADO also look at CELL LTE LAUNCH OFFER just the LTE device alone sets you back R2999 if you were to buy it outright on its own.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I will be purchasing 8ta and CellC SIMs and will check which one gives me the best connection.

Will take it from there ...

Much appreciated.

8ta's Internet Promo 5 (10GB per month for R199) is fantastic, assuming you have coverage, as is their 60GB+60GB promo.

As for the 3G router, have a look at the TP-Link products from Uniterm Direct here.

I have tested both 8ta and cellc sims on prepaid as a trial first.

CellC reception/speed where I stay is much better ... so will definately be going with the Giga 20.

I also found my cap on the 8ta sim going really fast and I also don't like that you buy a monetary amount and not data cap, so I didn't really know how much data I got for the R100 I bought. CellC's 1GB still going strong ....

Ordering my router (TP-Link MR3420 3G/4G Wireless N Router) tomorrow :-D

Thanks All.

Update:

Well, I bought the TP-Link MR3420 3G/4G Wireless N Router and am using it with a Huawei E1756 3g dongle. The TP-Link router is currently connected to my Cisco Linksys 8Port Gigabit switch. I can confirm that it works great and CELLC speeds are good where I stay.

The only minor glitch I had only my LAN, was due to a routing issue caused by my WUG RB from which I currently DHCP. Just added router 0.0.0.0/0 for eth0 and problem solved.

The TP-Link admin console also has some nice config options I you need to use it as your primary router.

Cheers
