Best Effort & True data speeds.

Should the term "Best Effort" be allowed in ISP agreements/contracts when it comes to data speeds?

I realized today that many people have an ISP that provides them with good internet and the speeds they pay for. However some ISPs tent to use this term to actively avoid giving customers the speeds they are paying for and actually demand they pay more to get better speeds.

Based on this I figured I ask the following questions:

  1. Who is your ISP ?
  2. Who is your Fibre provider ? "if applicable"
  3. Are you getting the speed you are paying for ?
  4. Was an upgrade package offered to solve the problem of slower speeds? "if applicable"
Please don't provide any identifying data. The goal of this thread is to inform the public what ISP is offering good service. This can aid future/current consumers on what to expect.

Thank you for taking part.
Have a great day :)

Vox is my current ISP, just cause I had no other choice in the complex, but at least getting what I pay for. No issues.
Also no issues on Cool Ideas and Mind the Speed when I was with them
All were on Vumatel

The term best effort is something imposed from the fibre provider, I wouldn't say this is something an ISP would use as an excuse.
The issue with "speed" or performance comes down to many factors and the last mile has a major impact on the end result.

In our case best effort is down to the response time to repair, not the delivery of the service on a data level typically speaking.

IE the days of "premium" vs a "basic" service is a thing of the past in my opinion, the effort to shape traffic costs more money than just purchasing more capacity.

1) Cool Ideas
2) Vumatel
3) Yes speeds have always been about 5-10% higher than what we pay for :)

this should be the case for all Vuma ISPs - 5-10% higher speeds
Its how Vuma manage their connections and set their speeds over their network

Most other FNOs will give the speed that your ordered
In this case, slower speeds will be due to how the ISP manages the connection
