Hi Guys,

a client wants to go ADSL - informed about the problems which should not affect him. Telephone savings will pay for the modem etc in around 3 months.

What is the best non-Telkom ethernet ADSL modem at less that R2000?

If there are problems, what is Telkom's attitude? Is it "your bloody stupid modem not being ICASA approved" or is it, let's have a look?

Thanks

Netgear 824. Is a wow modem. Quite a bit more expensive round R2800 but has 4 ports, wireless lan, proper firewall , dynamic IP updates

And a whack of other stuff

I would have recommended the DG824M (as it's what I got as well), but he wanted something less than R2000, and unfortunately the 824 is quite a bit more :P The next best thing is the DG814 :)

I'd go for the Planet ADE-4000. It's a 4-port 100mbps switch with ADSL router capabilities. Go for the ADE-3000 if you only need one port. (It can work in USB mode as well, but the ethernet is much more streamlined... you can chuck telkom's PPPOE cd in to the toilet - where it came from).
