hello

could anyone advise

am interested in getting external hdd sometime in the future

can i fit any internal hdd with an enclosure, or should i be looking for a different type of hdd that can handle shaking a little better?

are there usb 3 versions of the enclosures available yet?

Cheers

Yes you can take any 2.5" or 3.5" internal HDD and fit it into an external case - 3.5" needs a separate power source whilst most 2.5" HDD's use the USB2 or USB3 power to run.
As long as you don't knock it around, you should be fine - any normal HDD that's bashed or dropped may give you hassles, and imo no external case will take that away - it may minimise it, but if you're careful you should be fine.

At the moment, the only way to "future-proof" would be to go for a USB 3 or e-SATA external case (or both) - most good online retailers should be able to source one, e.g.
- MUKii Tip range
- Vizo Traveller range 2.5"
- Vizo Luxon range

Just check the capacity drive they can handle - most will do fine up to 2TB, some beyond that...
