Best fish and chip shop?

In Gordon’s Bay we probably had one of the best fish and chip shops, Ooskus, until Earl Rose parked (crashed) his sponsored car right into the place early Sunday morning.

Hout bay? Haven't been there for sometime. It is quite good I must say.

That place is the anti-christ of fish restaurants. Them and Ocean Basket. They make some of the worst fish and chips I have ever in my life eaten.

the guys there and at fish on the rocks always sold us horrible fish and chips

snoekies in hout bay is quite decent tho

If it's not battered it's not fish and chips. Maybe you can call it fish plus chips or fish with chips as a side dish, but fish and chips, nope.

Traditionally, that's what fish and chips is. BTW, when they call it grilled, they're simply dusting it in seasoned flour and frying it - absorbs just as much oil - in fact a well made batter will absorb less. If I'm eating fish and chips from a shop, I always go for the battered fish...

I've been going there for years whenever I'm in CPT. I have never had a bad experience with them. The massive queues of people that I'm accustomed to there on a weekend seem to agree with me...

I've heard great things about Snoekies. I guess nostalgia and the guarantee of great food keeps me going back to Mariner's Wharf - it is a personal affection that I have for the place that will probably never die for as long as they're around...
 
If you ever visit Gordon’s Bay I would definitely recommend Trawlers, but their speciality in my opinion is more on the Calamari dishes. Another place, The Tavern Restaurant, in the old harbour also serves enjoyable fish dishes. But then again, you have to wait for Ooskus to being rebuilt before you really can taste proper traditional fish and chips.
 
In Stellenbosch the best fish and chips shop by far is Nacional Fisheries (next to Steers) at the Simonsig Spar center next to Helshoogte road.
Its run by a Portuguese couple, they do not accept cards, but my word... their fish and chips is excellent.

iv eaten there once and didnt enjoy it ...but maybe give it a go again but fish on the rocks i seem to aways get fish that tastes like rubber

aaahh must try it then ..summer is coming and hout bay drives i can do every weekend
 
Can't remember the name but it's a fisheries in Plumstead (Cape Town) main road. I have to go there after work now :cry: The Sunday lunch leftovers is not going to cut it anymore.

On a sidenote...when I used to live in Gansbaai there was this fisheries on the farthest point of the "dorp". Freshest fish any man can have at any time of the day :P. Drove (with my bicycle) every Saturday about 10km's to buy ;)

cause everywhere else they eat jimmys and ocean basket :p

the fishermans basket/lane in athlone has some good fish and chips as well

in dbn we used to eat at skippers i think ..this was a while ago atleast 10 years ..it was opposite the cna on west street close to the aquarium

not sure if they still there
 
I can't remember the name of the fish and chips place I ate at in Durbs when I lived there - was near Marine Parade Drive, but many moons ago. I remember enjoying the fish and chips at a place in Glen Ashley but again, can't remember the name...:o
