Hey guys, I'm new here.

I can not decide on a ISP for gaming and a bit of downloading. Say about 20Gb for downloading. I am going to play on a Xbox 360 games and do not want it to lag allot!!!!! I hate it when something lags like a DVD from Mr video. I want to get a 2Mbps line. I think the 1meg line will be to slow.
From what i saw from the websites of the two ISP's, Afrihost is R497per month including ADSL line rental and Mweb is R599 per month with line rental. I do not mind about the deference price.

Also I don’t have a current ADSL line or modem. Which modem would you guys prefer for gaming? Not more than R700 please.

Thanks allot!

Afrihost are having some teething problems with their move to MTN Business. For now I would say MWEB.

Forget them. Openweb standard uncapped > all in that price range.

Keep your adsl line under your own name. Its like R20 extra a month but then you dont have to deal with the issues that arise when you want a port reset or change ISPs...

All gaming ports unshaped. I like my 9ms on battlefiled, 170ms on WoW and 195ms on dota2.

And the best thing? Mrbeep unshapes everyone when there is capacity. They dont care how much you use, just dont tunnel your ports

Afrihost sucks donkey balls for gamers now.

MWEB is better, but I'd say check out Openweb. I'm on Gold though.

Oh and you definitely want 2meg. Will make the whole internet experience a lot better.

But is the standard 2mbps line rental inculded and can play xbox with tha line. Ive read you need silver or gold, which is more expensive.

Im currently using Afrihost , service is just terrible. You cant play any game that requires you to be connected for longer then 5 mins , so basicly you can play Typeracer and thats about it.

We have decided to go over to Openweb becuase they seem to be the old Afrihost , the same prices and still on the IS backbone.

I have to agree - have been with Afrihost for 3-4 years. Have been having lots of issues lately. The latest being my connection drops EVERY SINGLE TIME with any interval between 5 and 20 minutes from Sunday evening. Having been losing a lot of online FIFA games beacuse the connection just drops - handing my opponent free 3 points. Have complained via Twitter last night and this morning, sending DM as well - no response. I assume this is affecting all customers, as nobody is getting back to me.

I am heading over to MWEB's webpage to see what packages they offer. I have a 6GB capped account (and my line - unfortunately) with Afrihost at the moment.

Any suggestions on good value packages from MWEB?

Im currently on afrihost at the moment, and also experience those lag spikes you have aswel and i can assure you they the type of spikes that make one rage hard because it happens in the worst case scenario, like in Dota 2.. you will be chasing the enemy for the kill (last hit).. spike happens.. 20sec later u dead in base.. FFFFUUUUU...

switch to FNB, no spikes. but the latency on Afrihost has gotten a lot better, its just these spikes/timeouts/resets, got to stop.

MWEB, like others have said Afrihost is having trouble atm also if you do have latency issue you can just let MWEB guy know. My GW2 latency has been perfect since I let them know that I was having issues.
