MSE doesnt want to install. Should I uninstall Norton first?

You might need to go to the Symantec Website and grab their uninstall tool as it nearly always does not uninstall clean using Windows uninstall. The resolve to never install a crappy Norton product ever again. They don't even know how to create a proper uninstall routine.

Q: Best free AV?
A: Linux :)

There always has to be one "genius"

You do realize that by posting what every linux advocate inevitably posts whenever somebody creates a thread about Anti-Virus that you are not in fact promoting Linux, but making Linux enthusiasts look like a bunch of A-holes. And I say this as a Linux user myself.

You need to have a genuine version of Windows installed though?:)

So you are saying the OP has an eye patch on? Plus XP is a decade old, you must be a real cheapskate not owning a license lol.

To be fair you should not worry like that as I have has linux on my previous lappie and it went bust withing warantee period and was not void. Just make sure to fix MBR and install windows again.

No more of an A hole than aomeone posting such a question that seems to be discussed a million times over the web. Google must have been down when this question was posted : http://lmgtfy.com/?q=best+free+antivirus

TO be honest, I would actaully think that MSE is the best, because it is easy to use, and also it does not slow your computer down at all..
