best free encoder out there?

ok there are so many threads dedicated to this.Al i ask is what is the fastest and noob friendly encoder out there and can virtualy encode to many formats.

I use mediacoder but it is really slow and the fastest one i came across is x video convertor,but sadly its not workng anyore,It stucks on 0% for everything.

So no others out there in cyberspace
