best free mail server software ?

i'm looking for a decent mail server software that is free, else any suggestions for a decent pay one except ms exchange

Use Centos or your prefered linux distro as the OS on your mail server box and then install dovecot and postfix/exim to handle the mail.

For open source look at Zimbra. For paid Kerio is quite nice and has a few exchange features.
