Best FREE social network maker..?

Hi all,

Anyone know of free social network makers? Only found some older posts on MyBB.

I am aware of wall.fm and SocialGo... anyone tried these?

The idea is to use the free version to see how the response is to the social network, and then adapt to more premium features if necessary.

Ning.com by far (if you are not a technical intensive person). But it caters for everyone.
 
MultiUser install of WordPress 3 with BuddyPress = Totally awesome social network site.

Add a handful of plugins from the hundreds of free onesavailable according to what you want to achieve and there is practically no limit to what you can achieve.

warning - install on at least a semi dedicated or VPS account. I've had 2 shut down by shared hosting companies for using all available resources on a server that is sup****ed to be shared between many cusomers!

True story. Will perhaps give it a shot, seeing that Ning is top rated.

Im not too keen on setting up a server for a social network, so Ning is great for that reason too.
 
+1 for Buddypress

Also check out Texo - they offer a dedicated wordpress hosting solution for around 75 bucks a month - which comes with some excellent caching and cdn services built in
 
try using vivosocial its a DNN driven site with all the modules to create a Social Network.
