Best FTTH router , dual channel WiFi

I need help here please. I just got FTTH, and the router from VOX is "locked". I want a dual channel WiFi router that gives me best value for money. I have 100 meg fibre, and need 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz router that I can manage as I please? I am fond of the TP-LINK routers, the Archer D7 AC1750 I had with ADSL was user friendly and very good.

Any suggestions? I googled, but it's a minefield when you start reading reviews. Maybe a good ASUS or something like that? The TP-LINK routers are damn expensive, over R7K.
 
My TV etc are about 5M from the router, but 2 walls in place. That has never been a problem, I just need an user friendly router, just with the new router I cant see all the WiFi channels, new Lenovo laptop does. Besides that, I want to manage my router as I please. Why must I sign an indemnity form locking me into a "call out" charge if it
stops working?

Okay but still pretty bad that you won't be able to use them with IPv6 until they release a firmware upgrade addressing the issue. If you are spending that much money why not just go for like a couple Huawei AX3
 
Any wifi n standard router should do the trick. No real reason to spend more unless you plan on upgrading line speed dramatically or need a large amount of wifi bandwidth internally. Say due to NAS or whatever.

If you need mesh - the asus ones are decent

Gah...meant ac standard not n standard.

Point is ax is unnecessary for 100mbps and still quite expensive. ac should be quite common and acceptable cost/benefit.

Hoping @Drifter didn't action the above already :/

If you are happy with your existing TP-Link Archer D7 AC1750, why not just keep using it as your router? It has a WAN port (LAN/WAN), you should be able to just plug the network cable from your Fiber CPE/ONT device.

Just configure your D7 as a Wireless router, bob's your uncle ;)
 
That was my first request, but the VOX tech said it wont work . Will dig some more, thanks.
 
Ubiquiti Dreammachine Pro + Unifi 8 Port POE Switch + Unifi AC Pro access point. Costs a fortune but worth every penny.

Seems to be a trend with a lot of ISP's these days. Force their customers to use an ISP-supplied router that's compeletely locked down to the extent that you can't even do basic admin tasks like changing the SSID password.

Ja, I guess that is so. I certainly had an e-mail war with Telkom and D-Link about lots of settings on my router, but I was not locked out of it so I could customise it over time to my liking.
 
I had a similar issue with AH. Plugging in a new router required a redirect page to be pushed from AH but the Deco would not pass this page causing endless issues to figure out what was going wrong. Long story short wifi is turned off on the supplied DLink and the Deco works well in access point mode controlling all the wifi

The Deco is a full router in it's own right. There's no need to have the D-Link sitting in front of it. You lose a lot of the functionality of the Deco if you just use it as an access point connected to another router.
